In Nordic mythology, the draugr is a legendary undead creature, often associated with the burial mounds of the dead. Legends depict these beings as reanimated corpses, cursed to rise from their graves and carrying remnants of their former lives. The term "draugr" translates loosely to "ghost" or "spirit," but the draugr differs significantly from the typical spectral representation found in other folklore; it keeps a physical form and may possess superhuman strength.

The story takes place in Minnesota during the harvest festivals usually between mid-September through first week of October.
In Norse mythology it is known as the Haustblot: A time to celebrate the Gods and Ancestors and to express gratitude for the harvest.
Haustblot comes from Old Norse. Haust means “autumn” or “harvest,” blot refers to sacrifice or offering. In ancient times the Haustblot was part of a series of seasonal festivals that celebrated the turning of the year. For farming communities, this time held great importance as they prepared for the winter season. It compares to our modern harvest festival and the Autumn Equinox which our celebrated throughout the world.
In Norse mythology, Freyr, the god of abundance and peace, along with his sister, Freyja and father, Njord were honored in hope for their protection, wisdom, and abundance in the coming year.
Like most festivals it is a community-centered with feasts, games, and festivities. In moderns times the sacrifice is one of giving to others versus the traditional blood rituals of the past.
This special time of year reminds us of nature’s cycles and the importance of gratitude within our lives.
