A holiday PSA

Stop telling successful women to remember where they came from.

Especially Black women.

Because let's be honest, how could we forget?

You and all of our 2nd cousins remind us at every family gathering.

The patriarchy reminds us in every boardroom when they get the privilege of our presence.

Systems remind us every time the rules change, right when we start winning the game they built.

Believe me, we know. Every. Single. Day.

What you don't see while you're asking us to stay in our place:

The late nights spent solving everyone else's problems before we get to our own, or how we pour into our families, mentor the next generation, invest back into our communities, while climbing a mountain we weren't even invited to summit.

You don't see how our success isn't about proving anyone wrong, but about honoring the assignment that's uniquely ours.

And that assignment? It's personal. Sacred. Purpose-led.

So the next time you feel the urge to critique a successful woman, especially a Black woman, during a family gathering, try this instead:

"Congratulations on everything you've built. Please pass the gravy."

Respect our ambition.
Celebrate our joy.
And trust, we know exactly who we are, where we came from and where we're headed.

Thank you for reading my holiday PSA.

Happy holidays.
