Welcome back to Changemakers, the newsletter for founders, storytellers, and operators building the next generation of impact-led ventures.
Most teams overbuild their decks and underbuild their story. They fill slides with logic and traction, and lose the human signal that makes belief possible.
Investors do not just back data points. They back clarity, conviction, and timing.
To move a decision, you have to speak to both sides of the brain. The numbers reassure, but the story makes them mean something. Across hundreds of decks, I’ve found four slides that consistently separate “interesting” from “inevitable.”
These are the slides that create that quiet nod halfway through a meeting, when logic meets emotion, and belief locks in.
A Note Before the Year Ends: As we approach the end of the year, many teams are re-evaluating how they communicate, whether that means evolving their brand, building direct audience connection through a newsletter, or upgrading their investor storytelling. If that’s you, reach out. We can explore how to bring clarity, confidence, and consistency to the way you show up in 2026.

Investors don’t decide with spreadsheets. They use them to justify what they already believe.
Belief is built in the first five minutes of a pitch, and those minutes are emotional, not analytical. The ultimate goal is to get them into your data room, but emotion is what gets them to the door. They need to believe in you first and foremost.
Across hundreds of decks, I’ve seen teams spend months perfecting slides on technology and traction, yet skip the four slides that actually move money.
Here’s how to fix that.
Purpose: Builds emotional connection and trust.
Investors back conviction, not concepts.
This is where the emotional brain opens.
Tell the truth of the moment that set everything in motion, the frustration, the insight, the turning point that made the problem impossible to ignore.
Example:
“It started with a frustration. We saw protein systems that failed whenever supply chains bent under pressure. So we asked, what if functionality could be grown as easily as vegetables?”
Every venture begins with friction, the moment something stopped making sense.
That story builds trust because it reveals character, not concept.
Investors back conviction, not credentials.
The best founders don’t say, “We saw a market gap.”
They say, “We saw something that shouldn’t still be broken.”
This slide connects the founder’s human truth to the company’s commercial logic.
Without it, the deck feels clinical. With it, it becomes inevitable.
Purpose: Builds urgency and timing.
This slide engages the analytical brain. It proves you understand the macro forces shaping your category and why this moment is the inflection point.
Example:
“The post-bubble reset means efficiency finally wins again. Investors are done funding shiny labs with ten-year paybacks. We can now produce at near-demand scale, with CapEx closer to greenhouses than fermenters.”
Timing is belief.
It shows you understand not only what you are building but why this exact moment is the window for it to win.
The founders who raise fastest show one clear external shift:
a regulatory change, a consumer trend, a cost inflection, or a supply disruption that makes their timing obvious.
“Why now” turns vision into urgency. It makes investors feel late, not early.
When founders miss this slide, investors assume the idea could wait, and money always waits if it can.
Purpose: Builds credibility and confidence.
This is where emotional conviction meets rational proof.
Investors are asking, “Can they execute under pressure?”
Example:
“We’ve built everything so far with £1.4 million less than 1/4 of the industry standard, including yield breakthroughs, pilot readiness, and first partnerships.”
Credentials don’t build belief. Pattern recognition does.
Investors look for proof that this team executes under constraint — that they can do more with less, focus when conditions change, and turn setbacks into systems.
This isn’t a CV slide. It’s an execution slide.
Show the precision of your past decisions:
→ How you hit milestones with half the capital.
→ How you secured partners without overextending.
→ How you built quietly while others overhired.
Belief grows when discipline is visible.
Purpose: Ends with vision, not valuation.
Example:
“If we succeed, food becomes as resilient as the people it feeds. Nutrition that heals, production that lasts, and systems that no longer crack under pressure.”
The final slide is where logic meets purpose.
It’s not about scale, valuation, or returns, it’s about legacy.
What happens if you succeed?
What changes in the world, for real people, if your product wins?
When that answer is emotionally clear, the pitch ends not in numbers but in inevitability.
The investor sees not just potential, but responsibility.
Great decks don’t abandon numbers. They anchor them in feeling.
Because without emotion, data is noise. Without logic, emotion is hype.
The founders who close rounds understand this tension.
They move investors from logic to belief and back again — guiding both sides of the brain through the story.
→ Does your deck open with a human truth or a list of metrics?
→ Does it blend emotional conviction with logical clarity?
→ Can an investor retell your team’s story in one sentence?
→ Does your final slide make belief feel rational?
The best decks don’t just inform.
They make belief inevitable.
This month I’m opening a few free 45-minute consultations for founders preparing to raise. We’ll review your current deck, find the belief gaps, and outline the next steps to make your story investable.
