It’s been a big past week for the Red Sox, as they had yet another long, successful winning streak, but that got snapped. Overseas, however, it was a big week for Yu Chang, and Bobby Dalbec. (Author’s note: Statistics are current as of 8/10/2026).
Yu Chang must have been watching his WBC highlights this past week, because he was back mashing like he was in the WBC. It started on the 4th against the Brothers, where he went 1-4, and ripped a double, which is something that hasn’t happened a ton this year. He then followed that up with another big game against the Brothers, where he had a three hit game for the first time since July 12th. This specific outing, he ripped a double, got himself and RBI, and two runs. Last Friday was also a nice one for Chang, as he went 2-4.
That puts his batting average at .308, which is his first time batting over .300 since August 26th. With his recent success, he may be truly back to form for the first time in a couple issues.
Bobby Dalbec didn’t have quite the performance that he’s had the past couple weeks, but it still was a good week for the corner infielder. He started out the week with a 111.6 MPH 3-run home run for his 18th home run of the season. He also got another hit in that day, for a 2-5 day. His next hits would come in a rare pinch-hit role, but boy did he deliver, going 2-2 with 2 RBI. After a rough Friday, Dalbec went 2-5 for the second time this past week. Sunday, which is a relaxing day for most, it wasn’t for Dalbec, as he went 1-3, with an RBI and a walk.
Dalbec has been on fire for the past month, and is now up to a .266 average, with an .811 OPS, and 61 RBI so far this year.
After seemingly being moved to the bullpen back a few weeks ago, and then not pitching in last issue, Bryan Mata is back pitching in the rotation. He made a return to the rotation on Friday, and it was a good outing from him. He threw 5 innings, allowed 7 hits, 1 walk, and hit two batters, but he was unphased by all the pressure, as he struck out 5, and allowed one 1 earned run. That performance was good enough for Mata’s 6th win of the year, moving him to 6-3. So far, in 66 innings flat, he’s struck out 55, and walked 23, which has allowed him to put up a quite productive 2.86 ERA on the farm.
Darwinzon Hernandez has returned to game action, and was stellar as usual. On Thursday, throwing 1 inning, allowing a hit, not allowing a run, and he did grab a strikeout and hold for the road. Hernandez’s next outing was on Sunday, and it was even better, as he didn’t allow a hit, and struck out one, over a clean inning. Hernandez’s ERA is down even more, now to a 1.59, and his WHIP is down to a 1.16.
For the first time in forever, Tzu-Wei Lin had a good week. He started on the 4th, against TSG, and had his first multi-hit game for the first time in exactly a month, going 2-5 with a run scored. He followed that one up with an even better performance the next day, going 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs. That game marked his first RBI since the 12th of July, and his first time having consecutive multi-hit games since mid-June.
He’s now slashing .250/.289/.340, and time will tell if he can keep this up.
