A Comparison of Two Grapes in Los Angeles

I grow fourteen different varieties of grapes in my Los Angeles yard (zone 10b): four European (V. vinifera) varieties, and ten hybrid varieties. I can say many things about each of these variety’s performance on this site, but a comparison of two of these grapes gives a stark contrast that I think could help California winegrowers and winemakers. These two varieties are Sangiovese and Marquette.

The Sangiovese crop will fail this year, but Marquette has already produced perfect, beautiful, and abundant grapes. Here’s my comparison and the insights we can learn from it.
