I hear rumours that Spring proper may be with us next week in the UK which fits perfectly with the spring equinox Friday 20th March. We are promised blue skies, warm sunshine and with it that glorious uplifting effect that only comes with this time of the year.

Knowing that the real seasonal shift will soon be taking place, I wanted to share with you a tutorial on how to make a living spring wreath.

This project is the front cover project from my book Crafting with Flowers and is quite possibly one of my favourite ways to play with flowers and plants at this time of year.

I first made a living wreath years and years ago (quite possibly over ten years now) when I had just quit my corporate job and was volunteering one day a week with a friend Jacky at her flower farm. In amongst the days of seed sowing and pricking out we managed to find the time to come together and have a morning of play.

We made wreath bases out of vines and decorated them with spring gardens created out of living plants, flowering bulbs and other bits and pieces. When I began to write my third book, I knew this project needed to feature because it was a pivotal moment in my creative life.
