To be hyperphantic is to be able to experience vivid mental imagery. This can both be extremely exciting, joyous, and helpful but it also can be distressing at times. Here I explore my own experiences of hyperphantasia and other imagery variances and how being aware and understanding these differences has helped me gain deeper knowledge of myself - and most importantly, how to look after myself.
Sitting in the uncomfortable foggy unknown is a well trodden path for so many autistic folk. For many of us, we have lived our lives having to second guess, reels of time pondering meaning, years working out and analysing conversations, and reliving desperately embarrassing/awkward/painful memories, where we feel we just got it ‘wrong’, but we are not sure how or why. It is extremely common for…
The belief system for neurodivergent folk is complex. We are so often not believed, and conditioned by society to push aside our internal trust and beliefs. Here I explore the belief and disbelief.
It is my birthday next week. A "big one"..whatever that means. My concept of birthdays is not typical. I find it confusing that we celebrate them, and why does a mark of another decade mean more than any other year..? Anyway…!.. In my head this week I've been whirling around potential happy and joyful reactions, scripting heartfelt thank yous, imagining authentic smiles of gratitude, and generally…

A teacher friend describing the traffic light rewards system for behaviour in their class, the ableist loopholes to gain access to support by the various government systems, behaviourist therapists believing that "controlling appropriate…
I have seen a lot written about meltdowns but they always read far too linear for me. Because like with most things autistic, they are incredibly complex and incredibly unique to the individual. Meltdowns are not always external or destructive or violent. Meltdowns can also be accompanied by shutdowns. And for a lot of us, meltdowns are experienced internally to a greater degree first or just…
I have studied a lot. I have studied others’ neurodivergent lived experience. I have studied psychological, physiological, and philosophical theories. I have researched how they all intertwine, how the gut bacteria affects the immune system, the mind, and how trauma affects our nervous systems (and therefore all our bodily systems), the impacts of society, and the frustrating expected…
I realise now, that it's no wonder I used to lay on the ground in the woods as a child, and stare intently and deeply at moss. Imagining tiny cities of bugs, bacteria, fungus, plants. I would make up little stories in my head about these minuscule worlds. Busy woodland lives all going on without us big humans even noticing. Who am I kidding, I still do that now but getting back up is definitely…
