What 127% Higher Profit Margins Have to Do With Your Inner Game

Now ask: how many of those choices came from a clear, grounded mind?

If you’re honest — and I mean really honest — the number might surprise you.

Research from the World Economic Forum identifies emotional intelligence as one of the top five critical leadership skills through 2027. And the data behind that ranking isn’t soft. CEOs in the top quartile for EQ generate 127% higher profit margins than those at the bottom. Emotional intelligence is 8 times more predictive of entrepreneurial success than IQ.

Eight times!

That’s a serious competitive moat. And yet most, are leaving their minds almost entirely untrained. Don’t fall into that group. First, you deserve better, and second, you’ll clearly be at a massive advantage.

We’re going to run a very quick audit at the end of this write-up that gives you the questions and insight to play in that 127% arena. It’s available to all of us if we decide to operate away from the pack.

Most high-performers I work with share a belief: I’m doing well, so my inner game must be fine.

And they’re not wrong — they are doing well. The business is moving, team is executing and the metrics are there.

But functioning and optimized are not the same thing.

There’s a gap between the decisions you make and the decisions you’d make from your best mind. Not dramatically different, in most cases. Just cleaner, faster and less reactive. Ones that don’t need to be walked back the next morning, or come with a narrative of “shit, I shouldn’t have did that.”

That gap has a cost. It shows up in the team member you snapped at before you realized you were running on four hours of sleep. The strategic call made from frustration or urgency rather than clarity. The meeting you checked out of because your mind was already three problems ahead.

We call this leadership. But a lot of it is just unprocessed emotion wearing a strategic suit.

Here’s what changes when you start training mental fitness like the performance tool it actually is: you build what I call a Mental Fitness Operating System — the internal infrastructure behind every decision you make, every conversation you have, every moment you show up for.

To be clear, this isn’t therapy, it’s refinement.

The leaders generating those 127% higher profit margins aren’t just smarter or luckier. They’ve built something most haven’t — the ability to lead from a clear signal rather than noise.

And it’s more accessible than you think. Most people don’t start because they make it too complicated or ambitious. They go from zero to a 90-minute morning wellness routine and then drop it as soon as the first “urgent” priority surfaces.

There’s an easier path, let’s take it now and it only takes 20 minutes.

The should be the most revealing performance review you’ll ever run and has nothing to do with revenue. It’s about the state of mind behind the decisions that lead to revenue.

Set aside 20 minutes. Be honest.

Step 1: The Calendar Scan Go through every meeting and commitment from last week. What state were you actually in when you showed up? Grounded? Scattered? Performing calm while running hot underneath? (tip: Screenshot your week, print it, then mark it up with a pen.)

Step 2: The Decision Inventory Pick the 3-5 most significant decisions you made that week — business, personal, or team. For each one: reflective or reactive? Did you respond from clarity or from pressure?

Step 3: The Input Audit What did you consume — food, content, conversations? Notice the relationship between what went in and what came out. No judgement, just witness any connections to your decisions.

Step 4: The Output Review Look at what you actually produced. Not what was on the list — what you delivered. What was driving it? Focused or just busy?

Step 5: The One Daily Rep You already know your practice. The thing that slows your mind and brings you back to yourself. Maybe it’s five minutes of stillness and a journal while your coffee brews. A walk after lunch. Your workout. Ten minutes of breathwork before the day gets loud. A meditation that actually holds.

You know what that is for you, make sure it’s scheduled and protect it like the board meeting you’d never cancel. And when your mind tries to negotiate you out of doing it, picture me standing next to you saying, “really, is this all it takes to turn your back on yourself? You deserve this moment.”

Then run this audit again in 30 days. The difference in the quality of your decisions will tell you everything you need to know about the return on that investment.

The 127% is about operating with a mind that is actually working for you, not against you.

You win, your team wins, your clients/customers win, your family and friends win, and your future self wins.
