Let me say that a different way: most leaders are now deferring to AI — and then doubting their own judgment when the algorithm pushes back.
I want to be clear about something before I go any further: I use AI every day. It’s in my workflow, it sharpens my thinking, it saves me time. This isn’t an argument against it.
But something is happening that I think we need to name because I’m seeing it play out in real time with the leaders I work with, and it’s subtle enough that most people haven’t caught it yet.
We’re drifting. Slowly and one default action at a time. Not toward the wrong tools — but away from our own minds.
And that’s the question I want to sit with today: Where is AI reporting to you? And where — if you’re honest — are you reporting to it?
The leaders I watch operating in the top 5 to 10% — the founders who built something real, the executives who keep making the right call in high-stakes moments — they didn’t get there by thinking the same way as everyone else.
They got there by asking different questions. By trusting something in themselves that ran counter to the consensus. By having a relationship with their own judgment that was strong enough to hold up under pressure.
This is the competitive edge. And it’s the one thing AI cannot replicate.
Here’s what I notice when everyone starts using the same tools to think: the outputs start to rhyme, the frameworks look familiar and the language converges. It’s not anyone’s fault, these are tools of today it’s just what happens when millions of people run their thinking through the same filter.
Groupthink used to require a boardroom but now it scaling while we sleep.
The leaders winning right now (and those who will have the largest impact on the future) are the ones with the clearest, and most fit minds that ask better questions. They can catch what the model missed, and trust their intuition when it says wait.
That’s the real competitive advantage in 2026. Yes the tools are great, but a thriving mind operating those tools will outthink and always win against the overwhelmed
The most powerful thing you can do right now isn’t to use AI less but to strengthen the mind that uses it.
Because a mentally fit mind doesn’t outsource judgment, it actually informs it. It shows up with a perspective, hands it to the tool, and stays in the driver’s seat.
The question is simple — and worth returning to more than once as a constant reminder and check-in:
Is AI reporting to you, or are you reporting to it?
— Marc
If this resonated, forward it to someone who needs to hear it. And if you want to go deeper on what (and how) it means to build a mentally fit mind in a world designed to think for you — that’s exactly what we’re doing through the Mental Fitness Blueprint.
