Dear Reader, Westport has been talking. It always is. Your correspondent has been listening. As always. Let us begin.
🔹 NELL FULLER — she knows something
Lizzie Fuller’s mother was spotted at Riley’s house on Tuesday morning, arriving with a chocolate cake and staying for what neighbours describe as a surprisingly long time for a woman who had apparently just popped in. Nell was let in by Lizzie, who sources confirm took one look at the cake and immediately forgot to ask why her mother had a key to Riley’s house.
The cake was, by all accounts, excellent. The note tucked underneath the cake tin, which Nell left behind when she finally departed — calling everyone Love on her way down the front path — contained the words ring and sooner rather than later. Whether it was intended for Lizzie or for Riley, Nell has not said. She called it a recipe. Nobody believes this.

🔹 DANNY — said the quiet part loud
Danny Fuller was overheard at his salon on River Road this week telling a client — in what he clearly believed was a hushed tone — that his sister Lizzie had been seen looking at engagement rings online and had immediately closed the browser when Riley walked into the room. Danny found this information delightful. Andrew, who was standing two chairs away, told him to mind his own business. Danny told Andrew that family was never other people’s business. The client, apparently, got a very good blow dry out of the distraction.

🔹 GRACIE SAUNDERS — was seen having coffee with the enemy
Gracie Saunders was spotted at the Café by the River on Wednesday. She was not alone. The man across the table was Aaron Douglas, new owner of The Ivory Veil and the subject of Gran Leonora’s most pointed opinions. They were there for forty minutes. They were not discussing business, unless business now involves laughing at something on a phone and leaning across the table to show the other person. Gran Leonora was not there. Gran Leonora, however, has friends everywhere. This correspondent gives it until Thursday before she knows.

🔹 GRANDMA MABEL — the blowout was not a coincidence
Grandma Mabel visited Danny’s salon this week, which in itself is not news. What is news is that she arrived with a photograph torn from a magazine, pointed at it, and said she wanted that. Danny has confirmed the photograph was of a woman approximately fifty years younger than Mabel. Danny did his best. Mabel left satisfied. She was then seen at the over sixties village that same afternoon, pushing her walker at a pace this correspondent can only describe as purposeful, in the direction of a gentleman whose name this Whisper will not print but whose recent availability is apparently well known. Eunice was not informed of the visit in advance. Eunice found out anyway.

🔹 THEO — Westport’s most litigious delivery companion
Theo accompanied Chloe on her delivery run on Thursday as usual and was, as usual, in charge of proceedings from the passenger seat. At the third stop, sources report, he spotted a cat on a front fence, exited the van via a window Chloe had left open precisely three inches, and led Chloe on a pursuit through two front gardens and a rosebush before the cat lost interest and went inside. The parcel was delivered twenty minutes late. The recipient took one look at Theo — muddy, triumphant, entirely unrepentant — and gave him a biscuit. Theo considers this a satisfactory outcome. The rosebush is unlikely to agree.
The Westport Whisper sees all, says most, and leaves just enough unsaid to keep you wondering. Until next week — your faithful correspondent remains, as always, delightfully anonymous. 🕯️
