Greetings! Happy longest day of the year! I hope you’re settling into summer and enjoying all of the good things it has to offer. I’ve gotten really into going to the city pool, eating homegrown tomato-and-mayo sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, and walking our dog during the summer twilight hour. I’m excited to share that I’ll be speaking and leading a design workshop at Adobe MAX in Miami this November! I’ll be teaching the tools I use in Illustrator to create vintage-inspired designs, and those in attendance will leave with a 1920s Miami-themed digital Adobe MAX ticket that we’ll design together. I’m excited about this for so many reasons, but getting the opportunity to share how much fun this process can be and to create work together that feels tangible, even though it's digital, is what makes me tick.

Wes Anderson and The Criterion Collection at The Hollywood Bowl!
Gah, I’m so excited about these shows that Wes Anderson is putting on at The Hollywood Bowl here in Los Angeles next month! 3 nights of music from his films, appearances from Bill Murray, and the Criterion Collection mobile closet?! What a dream. I designed a few pieces of merch for the show, and they’ll be available at the Criterion mobile closet for viewing or purchase. You don’t need tickets to the show to go to the Criterion area, but wouldn’t it be fun to go to the show? Some of the tickets are just $20, so grab some friends and head on over to Hollywood. I think you can bring your own picnic and wine too!
WES ANDERSON AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL
The bourbon label I designed last December is out in the world! Meet Echo, an 8-year double-oaked Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey from Seelbach’s Private Reserve. Seelbach’s team asked for a prohibition-inspired label, and now, seeing it out in the wild, I think we achieved that with the gold-foil elements and the vintage-inspired revenue tax stamp. It’s fun to work with people who say “yes!” to the extra design and printing elements.
She’s a pricey bottle of bourbon but worth it for a special occasion!
ECHO DOUBLE-OAKED BOURBON WHISKEY
Special guest Matthew Müller led this month’s design prompt! He taught us the art of mixed-media collaging. I had every intention of pulling out old magazines and a glue stick, but I decided to create a digital collage instead based on my memory of my grandparents’ house in Southern Illinois. Sometimes, before I fall asleep, I close my eyes and try to walk myself through various homes from my past and try to remember every detail. Do you ever do this? Is there a name for this? Below are just some of the items I remember from my grandparents’ house.
Yesterday I took a screenprinting class with my friend Lindsay. It was so fun! We had the opportunity to bring our own design (which I stressed about), and I chose to create my own merch for Paul Simon’s Hollywood Bowl show we saw last week. I’m officially hooked on screenprinting now. It’s like the perfect mix of digital and analog I’ve been looking for all along.
My husband Dan released a beautiful solo piano album today called “felt vol. 01.” Over the years of listening to him play the piano at home, there’s been a sound that I’ve particularly loved, which is when the piano hammers hit a strip of felt instead of the piano strings. It creates this soft and cozy piano sound, which is how all of these beautiful songs were recorded. The album was written to feel like a day spent out in nature, starting with the first light of the day and ending with rest. I think we could all use a day like this! I designed the cover to feel like less rigid piano keys in reflection of this beautiful album. I hope you’ll listen (in bio) and treat your spirit!
