Earlier today, I republished a piece by Marianne Thorn about what Americans get wrong when they call Denmark socialist.
Marianne is a Danish author with a degree in economics and a long career in finance, consulting, investments, and real estate. In this piece, she explains what Danes receive in return for their taxes—healthcare, education, maternity care, and something many Americans do not have: freedom from the constant fear that getting sick, losing a job, or needing help will destroy their lives.
She also turns the question back on us: Before Americans dismiss Denmark as socialist, perhaps we should take an honest look at what our own system produces—and what it denies so many of our people.
