Hi. Hello.
I’ve got a little window of time where no one is pulling my hair or bringing me the same book to read for the 450th time (cute but annoying tbh) - so I thought i’d do a little check-in.
I’ve been wearing a lot of hats lately, literally and figuratively. The literal part is because my hair is the longest it’s ever been, I have bangs, and I have very little time in the morning to style it. Figuratively, well, you know, being a mom to a 15-month-old while trying to balance a whole ass life, get back to writing music, and find a way to joyfully exist in the impending apocalypse energy that is sort of the baseline these days.
Since I’m trying to get back into the swing of things here without overthinking it (a gigantic personal challenge), I thought I’d share a simple little list of what’s been keeping me sane.
LISTENING: Bethany’s Version: Last night while mindlessly scrolling TikTok (there I go typing TikTok again!!!), I came across a video of a band called Die Spitz and I became immediately transfixed. Like, the level of transfixed my toddler is when I put Ms. Rachel on so I can fold the laundry uninterrupted. Die Spitz are a band from Austin, TX consisting of four girls in their early 20s, and HOLY FUCKING SHIT, THEY RULE. I am often late to the party on current bands/artists—not even in a like, I'm so cool way—literally because I am usually listening to Fleetwood Mac or Elmo’s song (la la la la). It seems this band is finding its audience just fine thanks to how fucking cool and good they are, so you might be reading this like, Bethany, we know … but anyway! I love them. Young girls playing heavy music, looking like they're having the time of their fucking lives? Living for it!! Their debut album, Something To Consume, came out in September 2025 (see what I mean by late to the party lol), and it’s so damn good. So far my favorite track is “Riding With My Girls.”
Luna’s Version: As mentioned above, there’s a lot of Elmo in my ears these days, as Luna kind of runs the AUX cable of my world. Her current favorite song is “Drivin’ In My Car” by Ralph’s World. She first heard this song at our local library story time, and it’s now probably going to be my top-played track of 2026. TBH, it’s fun, perfectly silly, and catchy, and some of the other songs on the album are honestly giving Gin Blossoms energy - so obviously, I love it.
WATCHING: I just finished The Burbs on Peacock, which I loved. At first I was like, mmmm, I don't know, this seems very bad - but by the end of the first episode I was hooked. I’ve never seen the 1989 movie starring Tom Hanks, but I found the show to be a fun watch. Easily digestible, creepy but not scary, funny, and rather wholesome. Keke Palmer is delightful to watch, as are her motley crew of suburban neighbors. 10/10 recommend if you are looking for something to watch that will not make you spiral about the end of the world (ahem, Paradise).
DOING: I share this not to be like look at me, I’m such a good person!! - I share it because it legitimately has felt very, very good. I quit Amazon last week! What I have since discovered is that there is a world outside of the dopamine hit you get when a little package is plopped on your front porch. I really should have quit a long time ago, but everything in its own time, right? I simply could not support that demonic billionaire anymore, and truly, I feel freer for it. I started using this grocery delivery service called Thrive Market which I love. They are ethical and affordable, and they donate a box of groceries to a family in need each time you purchase one! No more Whole Foods (stupid Bezos, why did you have to ruin this too?), and no more Amazon - we are THRIVEing (I’m sorry) over here. If you would like to try Thrive Market (this is not sponsored, I swear!) - here is a little discount code so you can give it a shot.
USING: In the spirit of spending less money, I decided to try the Trader Joes Hair Oil, and to my surprise, it is great! If you, like me, have thick, frizzy, wavy, or curly hair, then you know how important a good hair oil is. The one I was using before this was incredible, but at $45 a bottle, mommy needed to find an alternative. It’s got argan oil, moringa seed oil, chia seed oil, and vitamin E. It tames my frizzy flyaways and lets me get away with bedhead without anyone really knowing I haven’t used a brush in days. Also it smells great, and it’s only $5.99!!! Trader Joes we love you!
What are you currently listening to/watching/doing/using to help you stay sane?
Until next time, xoxo.
