Oh, the Places I Go!

Here is a round-up of my (mostly) upcoming events. What an honor to be asked to be asked to speak and teach around the world! I already have one event scheduled for 2027, and am grateful to my speaking agent Jim Chaffee for making some of the events* happen.

I had my first official event last week at my home university. It was wonderful to get to speak with my friend and colleague Dr. Todd Still, Dean of Truett Seminary, and it is always a privilege to speak in a room with Baylor Provost, Dr. Nancy Brickhouse, and Baylor President, Dr. Linda Livingstone. It is wonderful to be at a place like Baylor that supports public scholarship.

I will be giving a public lecture (see below to come), titled “It is Time to Rewrite Church History,” funded by the Apgar Foundation and the Great Books department at Pepperdine University in Malibu California, on March 12, 2026. I am grateful to Jessica Hooten Wilson for the invite! I will also be giving an academic book talk for students and faculty title, “A World Without Thomas Aquinas?”. I’d love to see you in Malibu :)

I will be delivering an invited lecture, “Seeing Scripture: Reflections on Medieval and Modern Women Bible Illuminators,” for an academic seminar on Women in Christianity: Engaging with Scripture, part of the New Illuminators: Women in Search of Spiritual Authority and Resilience NISAR project, at Dublin City University on March 27. You can check out Professor Amanda Dillon’s work that has inspired this project and symposium. I will also see the Book of Kells, visit the monastery of St. Brigid of Kildare, and see a manuscript at Trinity College that I have been wanting to see since I wrote my dissertation. I PROMISE to give you an on-site post with pictures from Ireland while I am there.

I will be so wonderful speaking to women in ministry at the Lead (HER) conference! I will be giving the talk,“Our Great Cloud of Witnesses: The Long History of Women Preaching and Pastoring,” and facilitating a breakout session, “Helping Her LEAD: Lessons from History.”

Below is the description of my breakout session (I think the title of my main talk speaks for itself).

Even in churches that theologically support women in pastoral leadership, women face more challenges in getting hired, receiving equal pay, gaining congregational support, and advancing into leadership roles. Join Beth Allison Barr as she uses history and her experience to offer practical ways we can better support women in ministry.

I will be giving three historical talks as the keynote celebrating 150 years of CBWOQ! What an honor!

I will be teaching a week long course (onsite and online), HIST 527, Medieval Women & Religion, as well as delivering an evening lecture. It isn’t often I get to teach a course exactly in my speciality, so I’m very excited!

Life on Pilgrimage Women of Influence: Rome-Siena.

This is a first for me. I am so excited to be going to experience Rome and Siena as a pilgrim! I will arrive a couple of days early, too, to do a special on-the-ground online class with my Baylor students at the mausoleum of Regilla (as we will have just read The Murder of Regilla in my Women’s History course) and maybe do an online class at the Coliseum too, for my World History course.

I know this is still far off, but I am so EXCITED to be speaking at King’s College, London. I am very excited about the topic, too, and that I get to see London decorated for Christmas!
