Last weekend, we stood behind a small table at Açık Bufe and watched strangers meet our work for the first time.
There’s nothing quite like that moment. You spend months with something, so close to it that you stop being able to see it clearly. And then someone who has never seen it before walks past, slows down, and you hear it, quietly, almost to themselves or to the person next to them, “oh, how beautiful.”
We didn’t say anything. We just looked at each other.
That’s the whole reason, right there.
When you make something with your hands and your hope and a lot of hours you’ll never get back, you reach a point where it has to leave you. It has to go out into the world and find its person. And you don’t get to be there for most of what happens next.
You don’t get to see where it goes. What it witnesses. Who carries it and where, and what they were thinking about on the days they reached for it.
That’s the part we think about more than people might expect.
So here is what we would say, if we could write a letter to every person who will ever own something from beSeSi:
We thought about you before we knew you existed.
Not you specifically, but the idea of you. Someone who picks things up and feels them properly. Someone who notices when something was made with care, even if they couldn’t explain exactly how they know. Someone who doesn’t need a logo to feel the value of what they’re holding.
We made this for that person. And it found you, which means something to us.
We’re also beginning a new road.
Last weekend, alongside the Ris Bag, we quietly introduced something new. A belt called YOL, which means “road” in Turkish. We didn’t put it on the website yet. We wanted the first people to meet it to meet it in person, the way you meet someone for the first time, face to face, with no filter between you.
YOL is our second step. A new road, as the name says. New in form, new in what it means for us as a brand that is slowly, carefully figuring out what it wants to become.
Every road begins somewhere. Ours began with a family name, a shared dream, and two people faintly saying “oh, how beautiful” as they walked past a small table at Açık Bufe last Saturday.
We’re just getting started.
To the next owner of anything we make: thank you for being part of this road with us. You have no idea how much it means to us that you’re here.
