Every Journey Needs a Belt

Nobody talks about the moment before the first step.

Not the journey itself, not the destination, not the lessons learned along the way. The moment right before. When everything is still possible and nothing is certain and your stomach holds both of those truths at the same time.

That feeling has a name. Most people call it fear. We’ve started calling it something else.

We used to think fear and readiness were opposites. That you waited until the fear passed before you moved. That the right moment to begin was the one where everything felt settled, where the path was visible and the outcome was reasonably assured.

We don’t believe that anymore.

Fear, we’ve come to think, is just excitement that hasn’t found its direction yet. It’s energy looking for somewhere to go. The question was never how to get rid of it. The question was always what to do with it. How to hold it, transform it, and let it move you forward instead of holding you in place.

That’s what we were thinking about when we made YOL.

There’s an idea we kept returning to while working on this piece. That luck isn’t something that finds you while you’re standing still. It arrives in motion. It meets you on the road, not at the door.

We’ve seen this in our own lives more times than we can count. The right person, the right moment, the right door opening none of it happened while we were waiting for the fear to pass. It happened because we left anyway. Because we decided that the discomfort of staying was greater than the uncertainty of going.

YOL means road in Turkish. We named it that because we wanted it to carry that energy. Not the safety of arrival, but the aliveness of movement. The quiet courage of someone who decided to begin.

A belt is a small thing. People don’t think about it much.

But it does something quietly essential. It wraps around you. It holds things together that might otherwise come loose. It’s the detail that makes everything else feel intentional, like you dressed with purpose, like you knew what you were doing when you walked out the door.

We think that’s worth something.

Because most of the time, when you’re about to do something that matters, you don’t fully know what you’re doing. You just decide to go anyway. You hold yourself together as best you can. You step out the door with whatever courage you’ve managed to gather that morning.

YOL is for that moment. For the person who is somewhere between fear and forward, who has decided to move anyway, who is creating their own luck by simply refusing to stay still.

Wear it on a day you need a little extra hold.
