Basement Leak When It Rains? Try A Forever Fix

Well, good afternoon, everybody. My name is Chris Berger and it’s time for a Berger Point.

You know, preventing a problem before it develops around your house is pretty much a tough thing to do.

Of course, one of the problems that I had with this house when we moved in is that a massive amount of water would collect in the back corner of the basement.

And I couldn’t stop it.

I went up, I cleaned the gutters. I put gutter guards on there. I put down, this old catch basin underneath the leader and still water.

So what do we do?

He said, that should absorb the water and take it away.

And I said, oh, that’s a great idea. I said, I really should have thought of that.

After doing it, of course, there are many things that you can put down.

You can put down colored gravel. White gravel is very appealing. In my previous house, I had red gravel, but here we went with the blue stone gravel.

The basement was dry as a bone.

And this prevents so many problems in the future.

So I’m going to take you outside. I’ll show you what I mean and really, it’s a simple fix.

And it really didn’t cost that much either.

I just wanted to show you the solution to this because the little catch basin at the end of the gutter spout, or the leader, it’s called, which runs down the side of your house, hits that catch basin and pulls the water away from the foundation.

As you can see, we just continued with the gravel all the way around and thus prevented a huge water problem way in advance that was happening.
