john bentley · Mr Internet TV the Ego and the Id

My memoirs ‘Mr Internet TV - the Ego and the Id’ are at last about to be published on Amazon Books KDP and Kindle. Writing about oneself for publication is as brave as it is foolish as it is as self revealing as an artist’s self portait. Looking back on a lifetime, and I am near to 86 as I write, risks opening a Pandora’s box of past best forgotten revelations. One’s ‘Ego’ may change over time and experience to see oneself in a new light which may not be to present taste. It has been a fascinating but daunting enterprise and a bit scary, and I have often thought to scupper it. Pushing the Amazon KIndle button means reaching the point of no return where I have now arrived

We are largely what lays in our genes and upbringing and what we become is what we make of both. Comparing my life as an entrepreneurial free spirit, inventor, author and seeker of life’s pleasures, to that of a doctor, or soldier or priest whose lives are dedicated to the service of saving of others is a harsh self treatment, not entirely fair. Shakespeare’s Sonnet 121 helped embolden me during qualms in my writing. Its quote: “ I am what I am and they that level at my abuses need reckon up their own” steadied my self-doubting introspection. The impulsive ‘Id’ took over and ‘Publish and be Damned’ has now achieved realisation.

The object of my Substack site is for me to enjoy continuing to write and converse. I have avoided philosophical and political views in my book of memoirs to avoid boring its readers but hidden in my characterizations of people in it are as many inferences for the perceptive to spot as those in any drama of my muse, the brilliant Francis Bacon, aka Will Shakespeare.

In particular my affairs with women and my offspring, as in the woke world of today men get a hard time when it comes to divorce and rights to see their kids. Other than those in the gay world the emotions of men are frequently trampled in the ‘ Me-Too’ era. In response I have done my bit for the straight male genes and for the ‘Father’s For Justice’ movement. I hope it may draw attention as much as my invention of Internet TV which I am proud to claim, and of my career and its ups and downs from which aspiring entrepreneurs might benefit from my experiences of both fortune and misfortune. As for the women in my life I have treated them as equally able as men in the eternal battles and romances of the sexes and the power of attraction. I have no doubt that the female of the species is as much a wily seducer as any male and those who object will gain no apology from me.

I am happy to enter into dialogue on Substack on any of the above areas of discussion and on all aspects of my memoirs as a whole.
