Success in any area is a combination of the circumstances which allow or don’t allow scope for proactive activity

and what best to make of them. That might be need, or curiosity. Not necessarily need for money but a desire to have something which can make life easier or more enjoyable or interesting for you or others, whether it is money making or not.

I can’t answer for other peoples’ minds as all are different. Some are happy with life as it is. Others want change. Whereas a pop singer will want his or her song to be heard and to invent new songs and if they have talent they will come easily. I say as much in my book with two examples from the two most famous pop groups in the world. Some invent by inspiration, some by chance, some by intention to solve a problem or as a living. If I was to summarize I would say the gift of ingenuity is the key, whether as an engineer or architect, or singer or even a sportsman. i.e doing something new and unique, however small, is invention, but it can also take endeavour and the perspiration of trial and error.

I tend to agree with you, and I think what makes memoirs like yours especially engaging is that readers often find themselves studying the thinking behind the journey rather than simply following the events.

One of the conversations your book sparked on our side centered around an interesting question. Is success shaped more by recognizing opportunities when they appear, or by developing the willingness to continually reinvent yourself as life changes?

Several readers felt that people who have lived through multiple careers and industries offer something unique because they reveal how adaptability is developed over time rather than presenting success as a single defining achievement. Others were equally interested in the role curiosity seems to play throughout such a life, especially when someone continues exploring new paths long after many would have settled into one identity.

I found that discussion fascinating because there is rarely one clear answer, and I imagine your own perspective has evolved through the many different chapters of your life.

I’m curious, after looking back across your experiences while writing the memoir, was there one principle or mindset that consistently guided your decisions through those different stages of your journey?
