I don’t really like qualifiers like better or worse, but I think it’s fair to say that when it comes to fall colors, there are areas where truly vibrant and awe-inspiring displays can be found with regularity. My first few trips away from the coast of New England in the fall were a revelation on this account. Inland locations have more of the hardwoods that produce brilliant colors in the fall, especially maples, and much fewer fir trees and oaks. This makes a massive difference in the amount of color that can be realized during peak foliage.
While you can make great images of fall color outside of the popular areas, let’s go ahead and get it out of the way, the hot spots are hot for a reason. If you want to see some of the best fall colors in New England, here’s where to look.
