The painful truth is that the world does not care about your problems.
I was skimming through posts on a social media platform when I came across the story of a young mother who was born without fully functioning hands. Essentially, she has almost no hands at all. What stopped me in my tracks was not just her situation but what she has been able to do despite it: she can drive a car. Yes, she drives using only her legs, and she is actually a very good driver.
That got me thinking. By all standards, this woman has no business driving a car. There are people with perfectly functioning arms and legs who still struggle to find the courage to sit behind the wheel. She has every valid reason not to drive, reasons everyone around her would immediately understand. Yet she chooses to drive. Why is that remarkable? Because she refuses to see herself as a victim. She accepts that she does not have hands, but she also acknowledges that she does have legs, and she uses them. Instead of focusing on what she lacks, she uses what she has. She found a way.
Every day, I hear people making excuses about why they are not where they want to be. I cannot study because I have a full-time job. I do not have access to the right resources. I live in a poor country. I come from a poor family. I cannot afford it. Everyone has an excuse. Everyone keeps staring at what they do not have instead of recognizing what they already have.
In this article, I want to show you why you should stop making excuses and start using what you already have to move toward the life you want.
Nobody Cares About Your Problems
The painful truth is that the world does not care about your problems. The world can be a mean and harsh place. In fact, your problems and weaknesses often create opportunities for others. When someone is applying for a job, do you know what they quietly hope for? They hope that fewer people apply, and they hope that the other candidates are less qualified. So every time you complain that you cannot finish a SQL course or complete a data science project, your struggle simply creates space for someone else. It reduces the competition for them.
People watch the news and see children dying in war zones, yet they still go on to have breakfast and continue with their day. Do you think those same people will suddenly feel sympathy for you because you come from a poor background or a tough country? Not at all. So stop searching for sympathy for your circumstances, because there is none waiting for you out there.
Instead of searching for sympathy, look for possibility. If you want to become a data analyst, start with what you already have. Maybe you do not have the perfect laptop, but you have a browser that can run Google Colab. Maybe you do not have money for expensive platforms, but SQL is free, Python is free, and most datasets online are free. Maybe you do not have a mentor, but you have the entire internet where thousands of people have shared their knowledge, their projects, their mistakes, and their breakthroughs. Sympathy will not move you forward. Action will.

These are the best hands-on materials that teach how to use the important libraries in data analysis: pandas, Matplotlib, seaborn, NumPy, etc. You will also learn to write SQL queries by answering questions that data analysts face in the world, using real datasets. Get the bundle if you want real, practical learning.
Invest in Yourself
Do you know that a bank won’t lend you money unless you can prove you don’t actually need it? Unless you can show the bank that you are also risking your resources on your investment, they will not risk theirs on you.
The problem I see is that too many people hope to get ahead without risking or investing their own resources. That’s like trying to take a bus without paying the fare. Even if you are struggling, most people will not help you unless you can show what you have already done with your current circumstances.
You cannot afford to pay for a bootcamp, but have you at least finished one free course on YouTube? You cannot afford a new book, but have you finished reading the free books you already have on your hard drive?
What I have realized is that being poor is not just a lack of material things; it is also mental. Poverty becomes a mindset when someone stops trying. When they convince themselves that, unless conditions are perfect, they cannot begin. That is mental poverty. And mental poverty is far more dangerous than material poverty because it keeps you stuck even when opportunities are right in front of you.
If you want people to invest in you, start by investing in yourself. Show effort. Show sacrifice. Show that you are already moving with the little that you have. When you invest your energy, your time, your discipline, and your small resources into your growth, the world begins to open up in ways you did not expect. People help those who help themselves, not those who sit and wait for miracles. Kaggle datasets are free. YouTube is free. Reading is free. Consistency is free. What is not free is your unwillingness to begin.
Start Today; Start Now
There is no perfect time to start. The moon, the stars, and the sun will not align for you. When you are making excuses, you always convince yourself that the circumstances are not right for you to start. It’s not a good day; it’s cold outside. It’s not a good month; I just took on an extra shift. It’s not a good year; I just got married. Let me tell you something: if you look for an excuse, you will find plenty and a half. But if you are looking for the perfect time to start something, nine times out of ten, you will not find it.
If you lack motivation, start a challenge, a 20-day or 50-day challenge to learn Python, SQL, cybersecurity, or anything else you want to achieve. Put aside 30–40 minutes every day to pursue your goal. Remember, nothing moves, nothing changes, unless you start moving and start making the changes. It all starts with you.
Do not wait for inspiration, clarity, or the “right moment.” Those things are rare and unreliable. What matters is action. Every step you take, no matter how small, builds momentum. Every day you wait is a day you lose. Start today, start now, because the longer you delay, the harder it becomes to begin. Your future self is built on the choices you make today. Choose to start. Choose to move. Choose to grow.
Life Rewards Doers
Have you ever had a conversation with someone who is down on their luck and walked away wondering why they are struggling when they sound so smart? Well, that is because we usually equate wealth or a comfortable life with raw intelligence. The truth is, intelligence doesn’t mean anything if you aren’t using it. You don’t get rewarded for your intelligence; you are rewarded for what you can do with it.
I have met people who have a sense of entitlement because they are intelligent. They did well on school exams, and now they want the world to fall into their laps. They talk about the scholarships they deserve or the government support they didn’t receive. Their excuse is that they are suffering because the world didn’t reward their intelligence.
Listen, your intelligence is a blessing, not a reward. If you don’t act, it won’t take you anywhere. Action is what turns potential into results. Talent and knowledge are useless without effort. The world doesn’t owe you success; it rewards effort, persistence, and the ability to take ideas and turn them into action.
If you want your intelligence to work for you, start doing. Start building, start creating, start learning, and start applying. Every step you take multiplies your chances of success. The more you do, the more doors open, the more opportunities appear, and the more people notice what you can achieve. Intelligence alone is quiet; action makes it loud. Be a doer, not just a thinker. Your future depends on what you do today.
Wrap-Up
Excuses will not move you forward. Sympathy will not move you forward. Intelligence will not move you forward. Only action moves you forward. Life rewards those who do, who start despite fear, who invest in themselves despite scarcity, who take what they have and make it work.
Look at what you already have. Use it. Take the first step, no matter how small. One step leads to two, two to ten, and before you know it, you are building a life that once seemed impossible. Start today, start now, because the only thing standing between you and the life you want is the choice to begin.
