Notes:

  • Immutable is expanding from current roll-up on Starkware to be building across polygons version of ZK EVM using this technology to create the immutable ZK EVM

  • They will be able to offer hundreds of custom ZK EVMs to major enterprise companies who might want to achieve their own version of this roll-up. The goal is to unify all this liquidity with their own infrastructure and have them build on easy APIs

  • Full EVM smart contract compatibility.

  • User on-boarding tech that allows a user playing a game to earn assets, and they can sign up for a self-custodial ethereum wallet without ever even knowing what an nft or a blockchain is

  • The relationship with Polygon tech and Immutable - Polygon tech is open source so there is no licensing agreement. Instead, when Immutable base chain ZK EVM decentralizes, it will have MATIC staking on it.

    • Polygon validators want to be the infra engine which provide the infra to run these chains and they get the gas fees in return

    • Expect 100m/billions of transactions a year —> all of these gas fees will go to the MATIC validator.

  • What happens to IMX token?

    • they can now add on utility that was not possible before

    • MATIC is the staking token, operates validators and receives the gas fees of the network, the gas fees are paid in IMX

    • IMX is a middleware plugged into hundreds of games + they now have gas fees in their token, polygon simply wants to play on the infra layer, on top of that on the app layer , all the utility goes to their partners like IMX —> this is the base model

  • Gaming Deals:

    • only reason to loose gaming deal would be lack of smart contract compatibility

    • enterprise companies today want to be handheld/white glove or play ground to experiment with

    • larger companies want to control their own destiny, they can have their own custom ZK EVM (i.e. own nodes, 10k/transactions / sec) all of their players can be interoperable assets and wallets with every single other roll-up built on immutable

      • basically, these chains will simply be layer 3s, if they want to decentralize their matic stake or they settle back into the IMX base chain (immutable zk evm) and they contribute back to the liquidity and gas fees etc

  • The immutable zk evm settles to the layer 1 Etheruem, not polygon POS but directly to Ethereum —> its the zk evm which is polygon tech staked by matic —> immutable domain & all of its on-chain gaming can exist on top of that layer2 —> matic staking, IMX is the gas token

    • independent game studios also have ability to make another zk evm (also polygon tech) that settles onto the zk evm, the rules of the staking/validation for these games is up to the gaming studios —> this is the service that immutable is offering towards the greater world of gaming, so immutable is offering a top of funnel BD skill set to the underlying polygon tech —> this is what is in it for polygon —> immutable gets the whole tech to scale out and onboard all of these game studios on zk evm with polygon

    • the layer of the stack today immutable is building is broken down into:

      • nft marketplaces

        • where people actually trade (open sea, rarible, game stop)

      • in-game marketplaces

        • believe with games we’re going to see a ton of sell side liquidity that is in-game marketplaces or contextual marketplaces and a lot of buying on big aggregators

      • Immutable global order book

        • they can take all these marketplaces provide them the same source of exchange liquidity and every single participant can take their own fees

        • today on most marketplaces its limited bc users cant sell nfts in the context of a game (i.e. 13 year old wanting to sell fortnight skin right there in the context of the app) so they will struggle to have volume over the long run they wont be able to tap into these contextual marketplaces

        • what immutable has built allows users to monetize far better and maximize liquidity and then at the bottom we have the scaling protocols (zk tech, consensus mechanisms) —> this is not immutables business but Polygons —> so this is why its completely complimentary for them to work together

Blockchain Game of The Day: Aglet

From IRL steps to sneakers…

The game turns your physical steps into Aglet, our in-game currency, which you can use to buy and collect virtual sneakers from brands like New Balance, ASICS, and Adidas (to name a few).

Much like the gaming phenomenon Pokemon Go, Aglet uses location services to track players' movement while using the app. While exploring the real world wearing “digital sneakers,” players' physical steps are converted into an in-game currency called Aglet Coins, which can then be used to buy and collect more virtual sneakers from top brands like New Balance, Asics, and Adidas.

During these strolls, players can also find treasure stashes, virtual sneakers, and even win limited edition physical sneakers.
