Every problem in life can be divided into two circles.

The Outer Circle

Everything you care about, but cannot directly control.

For creators, that includes:

  • The algorithm.

  • Whether a post goes viral.

  • Brand collaborations.

  • Market trends.

  • Other creators growing faster.

  • Negative comments.

  • Platform updates.

  • Audience mood.

  • Media headlines.

  • Economic conditions.

These things matter.

But no matter how much time you spend thinking about them, they won’t change because you worried harder.

Now look at the second circle.

The Inner Circle

This is where your real power lives.

Things completely under your control.

  • Showing up consistently.

  • Improving your storytelling.

  • Writing better hooks.

  • Learning editing.

  • Researching deeper.

  • Building relationships.

  • Replying to your audience.

  • Reading more.

  • Practising your craft.

  • Publishing your next piece of content.

One circle creates anxiety and the other creates progress.

The difference between struggling creators and thriving creators isn’t that one has fewer problems. It’s that they choose different circles to live in.

The Creator Who Never Started

Imagine two creators.

  • Both have the same camera.

  • The same internet connection.

  • The same amount of free time.

  • The same dream.

The first spends six months learning every algorithm update.

  • Watching How To Go Viral videos.

  • Reading every social media prediction.

  • Waiting for the perfect niche.

The second spends those six months creating.

  • His first videos aren’t great.

  • Neither are the next twenty.

  • But every upload teaches him something.

One year later, the first creator has knowledge.

The second creator has experience.

Guess which one the audience trusts.

The internet rewards execution more than speculation.

Why We Drift Into The Wrong Circle

Your brain loves certainty.

And ironically, worrying feels productive.

Reading another article about declining reach feels like work.

Refreshing analytics feels like research.

Comparing yourself to competitors feels like preparation.

But none of these create momentum.

They’re simply sophisticated forms of procrastination.

Real progress feels different.

It feels uncertain.

  • Publishing before you’re ready.

  • Recording another take.

  • Rewriting an introduction.

  • Testing a new thumbnail.

  • Having difficult conversations with your audience.

  • Creating again tomorrow.

Action is uncomfortable.

Overthinking is comfortable.

That’s why so many creators confuse movement with progress.

The Cost of Chasing Control

Every hour spent worrying about the algorithm is an hour not spent improving your craft.

Every day spent comparing yourself to another creator is a day not spent becoming a better version of yourself.

Every week waiting for motivation is a week your future audience never gets to discover you.

The biggest opportunity cost isn’t time.

It’s attention.

Your attention is your most valuable creative asset.

Spend it carefully.

What Great Creators Actually Control

If you study creators who’ve sustained success for years, you’ll notice something interesting.

They rarely obsess over outcomes.

Instead, they obsess over inputs.

They ask questions like:

  • Did today’s content teach someone something?

  • Can the first 30 seconds be stronger?

  • Am I improving faster than last month?

  • What feedback am I ignoring?

  • What skill should I master next?

Notice what they’re not asking.

Will this get a million views?

Because they know that’s not their decision to make.

Their job is to create something worth watching.

The audience decides everything else.

A Practical Exercise

Take out a notebook.

Draw two circles.

In the first one, write everything currently stressing you out.

Maybe it’s:

  • Low engagement.

  • Slow growth.

  • Money.

  • Competition.

  • Algorithms.

  • AI.

Now draw the second circle.

For every problem, you ask yourself

What part of this can I actually influence today?

If engagement is low...

You can improve your hook.

If growth is slow...

You can publish consistently.

If money is tight...

You can improve your offer.

If AI is changing everything...

You can learn how to use it.

The problem often doesn’t disappear.

But it becomes actionable.

And action reduces anxiety.

The Daily Creator Scorecard

At the end of each day, don’t measure yourself by views.

Measure yourself by behaviours.

Ask yourself:

✓ Did I create today?

✓ Did I learn something useful?

✓ Did I improve one skill?

✓ Did I publish or prepare something meaningful?

✓ Did I help at least one person?

If you can answer yes to most of these questions consistently, you’re building a career, even if the numbers haven’t caught up yet.

Remember, metrics lag behind mastery.

The Hidden Truth About Momentum

Momentum doesn’t begin when your content goes viral.

It begins when your habits become automatic.

The creator who publishes every week eventually outperforms the creator who waits for inspiration.

The creator who studies storytelling eventually beats the creator chasing trends.

The creator focused on improvement eventually outlasts the creator obsessed with validation.

  • Consistency compounds.

  • Attention compounds.

  • Trust compounds.

And every one of those lives inside your Circle of Control.

This Week’s Creator Challenge

For the next seven days:

Don’t check your analytics for the first 24 hours after publishing.

Instead, spend that time creating your next piece of content.

  • Notice how much mental energy you recover.

  • Notice how much faster your creative engine moves.

Because your career will never be defined by the number of times you refreshed your dashboard.

It will be defined by the number of times you chose to create despite uncertainty.

  • The algorithm will always change.

  • Your competitors will always exist.

  • The internet will always be noisy.

But your willingness to improve your craft, publish consistently and serve your audience will always remain inside your Circle of Control.

Focus there.

Everything else becomes easier.

Reflection Question

  • What’s one thing outside your Circle of Control that you’re ready to stop worrying about?

  • And what’s one thing inside your Circle of Control you’ll commit to improving this week?
