I started this newsletter ahead of time because we have the Ann Arbor Art Fair (the largest juried art fair in the country!) going on this week and I have family coming to town check it out. I wanted to get this written early so I didn’t have to worry about rushing anything with a guest and time-table. So responsible!
Except, my forethought was unnecessary. On Thursday, the first day of the fair, smoke from the Canadian wildfires descended upon us like a blanket of haze that smelled vaguely campfire-ish.
I’ve been offline and had no idea it was coming or it would be as bad as it was. My asthmatic self had to stay in, so plans changed. I feel so awful for the vendors at the fair!! Having to be out there all day?! I’m hoping it’ll blow through and we can make it out on Saturday at least, but this is nothing to play around with.
If you’re impacted by the smoke, please stay inside! And if you’re asthmatic, keep your inhaler with you and mask up!! What a mess!
Here are some non-smoke related things to keep our minds off of it:
Getting so invested in a book that you annoyingly text your friend who’s read it every time something crazy happens in the story.
Writing in a gratitude journal everyday.
Tiny versions of large things.
Shameless promotion time! Andy and I are sharing this new shop and I wanted to be sure you knew that his gnomes are on shirts!
Just like our pins (way back when) the heroes and the baddies can face off against each other! If anyone gets these and wears them together, please send me a photo!
Sareka Unique - I stumbled on her gallery at the Briarwood mall in Ann Arbor and was immediately obsessed! This is one of my favorite pieces of hers.
That High Five Life - I’ve mentioned this gorgeous shop before, but just had to show you the journal charms she’s making now! How cute are these?!
The Huntress Gatherer - (AKA Jennifer Perkins) If you want to junk journal, but don’t have time to thrift vintage ephemera, please check out her shop! This kit is a great way to jump start a new hobby.
Thrifty Day - And here are some vintage stickers to add to your journal, too!
E Lo Ceramic Art - One of my most favorite mugs ever was made by this artist and these salt and pepper shakers are too cute to pass up! I originally found my mug at the Ann Arbor Art Fair a couple of years ago.
HEMLEVA - Another gorgeous offering from Samantha! This four leaf clover pin is stunning!
Since we had company, my week was mostly about getting the house ready and clean. I did a lot of reading in my down time, though!
The Artist’s Way Progress!
Week Five was a doozy. The chapter made me cry?! It was all about expansiveness and what you believe is possible. There were A LOT of lists to fill out and some pretty heavy things to journal about.
So far, this book has really been life-changing. I’m not even halfway through it and it’s pushed me to do so much.
Also, don’t forget about Snart if you’re looking for some crafty ideas!
Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry (hardback) - Y’ALL! I LOVE THIS BOOK! It really kicked off at the halfway mark and I was in it. The last 50 pages were so wild, I was texting my friend with every revelation! I was able to figure out a few of the secrets and twists, but definitely not all of them. That’s my favorite kind of book. I don’t want to be able to predict everything, but I do like the sense of accomplishment that comes with being right. True Scorpio behavior lol. Yes, I’ve already started the next one.
*Book links are affiliates where I get a small portion of the sale and it helps to support The Fox and the Feather, my favorite woman-owned, indie bookshop near me!
I put our oversized, sleepy Pokémon plushes in our big bay window and Beans likes to snuggle with them 😭
A walk in our neighborhood on Sunday evening. There’s a creek nearby where the birds like to gather and the sound of the water is heaven.
This is our backyard just this morning. I snapped it in the middle of writing because I needed to document the haze! The air quality index was over 400 when I woke up.
Looks like an indoors weekend, unless the rain clears it away tonight. Please send my lungs and sinuses thoughts and prayers 🤧 😷
Stay safe out there, friends!
K, love you, byeeee!
