Hello and happy Friday!!
We almost forgot our second birthday this week, and I’m so grateful that you all reminded us. I wrote a little belated bday letter to reflect on the milestone and resurfaced some of my favorite early Beau photos. Looking back on them now, two years later, is a little wild — so much has changed!
This week I also developed a few disposable cameras. They’d been lying around for I don’t even know how long. The photos that came back were more than a year old, and they also reflected the passage of time. There were pictures from a trip to Hawaii when we were a family of two, a date night bowling fiasco I’d forgotten about, and a few photos that made me excited for the fall. Sure, scrolling back in your camera roll can remind you of where you were last year, but as you all know, when it comes to photos, I’m analog.
Have I mentioned how much I love Hawaii?? The plumeria! The mountains! The stars! The quiet! (I’d be lying if I said the proximity to LA wasn’t a factor too.) This photo was taken on our honeymoon in Kona, the Big Island. I remember feeling so carefree in this moment. Also, let this serve as a good reminder that an oversized buttondown makes the best coverup.
There’s something about feeding a cow — feeling its tongue on the palm of your hand — that makes me feel like a kid again. This picture makes me excited to take Harper to a farm to see the cows and horsies. Side note: Did this cow get a lash lift??
This one’s not going to make sense, so let me explain: We were bowling. I had long nails at the time, and you can probably guess…one of them ripped off mid-throw. It hurt!!
My friends and family know that this is my favorite sweatshirt of all time - I just love the way it fits, and it only gets better the more times I wash it (has to be hundreds of times by now). I bought it a million years ago at my favorite vintage store in New York City, The Vintage Twin. I wore it so often that it became this running joke that I had to bring it to Hawaii, back to its roots. So twist my arm, I packed it on our honeymoon.
As much as I love summer, I’m starting to get excited for fall…
You know what’s coming!!
Speaking of fall, I made a great soup the other day that I will definitely be remaking from now through March — it’s actually pretty evergreen.
I promise you, this tastes better than it looks! It’s also one of the easiest recipes that I make on repeat. It’s basically just throwing beans into a pot. Then you add some pasta (Ditalini!), greens, sautéed onions, and a little tomato, et viola, you’ve got a hearty lunch or dinner. Sometimes, in the summer, soup just hits the spot…
Makes: About 4-6 servings
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
1 can of cannellini beans
1 can of red kidney beans
1 can of butter beans
1 can of chopped tomatoes
2 teaspoons of olive oil
1 large white onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup dry ditalini pasta
3 cups escarole or spinach
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes if you’re into spice
Directions:
In a large pot, add oil and heat over medium. Add onion and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring often. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, sauté another 2-3 minutes, until the onion has fully softened.
Add in beans and broth. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Bring to a boil. Add in pasta and lower to a simmer. Cook pasta according to package directions or until cooked through. Stir every few minutes so pasta doesn’t stick to the pot. Remove from heat and stir in greens. Let sit for 5 minutes. Ladle into bowls. Top with a little pecorino or parm, if you’ve got it. And enjoy!
Last Sunday, Harper and I were having some girl time. It was so hot out that through the window, I could see the steam hovering off the grass in the backyard. Thus, we spent most of the day inside in the A/C. It was a pretty lazy day by most accounts, and it made me think about how enjoyable a relaxed, casual Sunday really is, especially when you’re a little tired and rundown as so many of us are in the summertime.
In our BS chat, I asked what your perfect lazy Sunday looks like, and you said the perfect lazy Sunday includes:
Sleeping in
Pancakes
Coffee or tea (ideally made by someone else)
Cuddling
A little movement - a walk or jog outside
Lunch or early dinner with friends
*Light* chores
Everything shower
Curling up with a comfort show or movie
A few chapters of a good book
This made me think about the perfect outfit for lounging…so I texted Greer (she loves shopping for pjs and always has the cutest ones), and we put together an edit of our favorite pajamas:
It includes my favorite cozy socks and the silk sleep mask I take with me on every flight. I’m obsessed with my Negative whipped track pants — they feel like nothing (ditto with the underwear). I became a nightgown person this summer thanks to this Dôen nightgown. As it gets cooler, I’m about to live in this washable silk set Greer put me on to, which I’ll wear with these Bombas slippers I’ve heard such good things about. Loungewear 4ever!!

Highlighting your comments on the previous week’s issue. Today, Axel’s response to You asked *about cooking,* I answered.
“I love it when people talk about cooking. My daughter has made me her chef, so seeing the recipes you share is really helpful. Right now, their favorites are the chocolate chip cookies you shared in previous issues.” -Axel
