It’s been 9 whole months and 63 episodes since I launched the “Caffeination Nation” Podcast. The show was born from a simple idea…
All of us, from the 18-year-old balancing a job as a barista while paying their way through school, to the 35-year-old, who’s hoping to find a good time to pivot and explore a new direction in their career, have a solid set of shared experiences:
Crazy Bosses
Annoying Co-workers
Complicated Office Politics
Confusing Interview Processes
Interviewers with Zero Capacity for Feedback
And a job-seeking ecosystem that seems to have more interest in telling us we haven’t made the cut than actually getting to know us.
Like you, I’d prefer to get caffeinated before having to take on that world every day. So, I figured we’d get up, grab a cup of coffee, get dressed, and head out the door. All the while, I’d be sharing stories of people living one shared experience or another while providing you with insights on how to best navigate those situations. Most importantly, helping you realize you’re not crazy.
And so…
We hit the ground running with a daily show, recording and producing by 7 AM Monday through Friday. We saw some early pivots from topics of pop culture into our eventual focus on job-seeker and employee experiences, and, with our dedication, started to see our conversations attract listeners.
To be honest, I was a little surprised as this wasn’t one of my more heavily produced projects. It was quickly recorded, lightly edited, and then thrown up onto Substack. I used to always approach podcasting with a full audio/visual experience in mind. I always had pride that I could draw on my broadcast undergrad education to go all out with a podcast. But I think doing so caused me to forget that there would be an inherent simplicity in podcasting. This definitely played a part in how we eventually left our Monday through Friday frequency to a MWF and, as of now, a weekly frequency.
I’ve given thoughts on what to do next, but I knew that I couldn’t ignore the fact that over our brief time, we’ve earned some good numbers. I’ve broken 1.23K downloads for the show, and we’re getting decent views for each episode. To me, that’s enough to keep this show going. In truth, these numbers are better than what I’ve seen for Casual Babble. After a quick ChatGPT analysis, I learned that this show has always had a secure and recognizable point of view. Something that I’ll need to translate to Casual Babble in due time.
For now, its time to introduce the new incarnation of this podcast.
Allow me to introduce you to “Thank You For Your Interest…”. This podcast picks up right where Caffeination Nation left off to provide a seamless transition.
The original Caffeination Nation was a lighthearted, almost humorous take on mornings before work—sharing stories of office politics, water cooler gossip, and the daily grind. It aimed to connect with listeners by being relatable and providing lighthearted insights.
However, as I reflected on the show’s growth, I saw that it resonated more deeply when focusing on the realities of job searches, workplace issues, and navigating uncertainty. The audience’s needs evolved, and so did the show's focus.
So, what does this rebrand entail? The new show, Thank You for Your Interest, is a nod to those recurring rejection emails that job seekers often receive, yet it’s also a rallying cry for resilience and understanding.
