To be or not to be, that was the referendum on cannabis put to NZ voters a few years ago. Lost by a small margin, subject closed. Not for my old chum Gerry it’s not. We go wayyyy back, both part of the Wellington music scene, and of course rock n’ roll and weed seemed to be bona-fide bedpals. It would be fair to call us seasoned practitioners, maybe Gerry’s more seasoned than me.
It’s interesting when you’ve been in each others lives so long you clock each other ageing. The hair might go (in my case, scuttling off down my back) the face get’s creased, skin sags, but what I love about curious and clever people, is that the years get put on hold when you look into their eyes and see the flames of a younger person. Gerry’s been skinning up the doobies and saddling up the horse for years, still playing gigs, still excited to ride the range, these days as Appaloosa Willie. Keep an eye out for this Waiheke cowboy.
