I feel like we’re living in an endless honeymoon. We have delicious routine and grounding stability, yet every day you still feel new and exciting. The butterflies I felt the first time we met – that day you picked me up from the train station in 2012 – are still there. Looks aren’t important, but you’re fucking beautiful; too often I still do a double take when you walk into the room.

I’m waiting for this to become normal and boring but it’s been 13 years and it hasn’t happened yet. I’m waiting for one or both of us to want or need more.

People often say “you don’t know real love until you have children” – if a love stronger than this actually exists, there’s no way I’d physically survive it.

Of course, there have been rough days, weeks, months: mostly me, orbiting, spinning wildly, trying to find my path, while you stay centered, stable, patient, gentle, holding me steady with your gravitational pull, letting me find my way. I like to believe your patience paid off. You make me feel like the more “me” I become, the more you love me – because the more you come into yourself, the more I watch your confidence grow, the more my love for you grows too.

I don’t know what the future holds. All I know is that today, with you, is still magic. And that I want you (and everyone else) to know how I feel about you, every moment of every day.

The partner in question.
