I am entirely captivated by the terminally optimistic. These are people blessed with the miraculous ability to gaze upon a barren, rain-sodden wasteland and confidently declare it a glorious day for a picnic. They aren’t lacking in brains; they’ve simply made an architectural decision to stare exclusively at the silver lining while ignoring the massive storm cloud currently flattening their house. It is a state of blissful delusion that makes them the happiest creatures on Earth—and from the outside, profoundly infuriating.
To those magnificent gems, I salute you. And when prompted, I shall enthusiastically point into the trees and say, “I saw something huge and furry move that way.”
