What a Racquet

It’s no surprise we’re big fans of music and fine print media. Sometimes we like to double fist both. Enter Bill Sullivan and Forest Hills Stadium.

For those unfamiliar with Forest Hills Stadium, it is nestled in between the quaint tree lined neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens. The stadium’s roots are engrained in the sport of tennis and was constructed for just that. Opening back in 1923, it was the previous home to the U.S. Open hosting the likes of Arthur Ashe, Billie Jean King, Maureen Connolly and many others.

In the 1960’s the venue branched out and began hosting concerts that went on to define the time with performances from Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and an electric Bob Dylan fresh off making headlines over at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Eventually the stadium would become vacant in the mid 90’s up until it’s revival with a sold-out show from a guy named Mumford and his sons. Since the folk rock group shot life back into the venue, it has continued to host some legendary performances and Bill Sullivan has been right there documenting shows with his artwork.

Bill, a painter and designer by trade, has been creating posters for the shows at the Forest Hills Stadium all defined by it’s iconic horseshoe bowl. Each poster is as unique to the artist that preforms. You can find his work over at the Kiosk near portal 5 at the stadium or online as well. He’s even got a book that’s on our coffee table filled with his posters spanning from 2015-2023. Big fans of Bill downstairs and the posters to follow are some personal favorites.
