I’m happy to see that there’s lots of talk about what explicit instruction is, and how to implement it. The discussions I’ve been seeing lately disabuse the notion that explicit instruction is the teacher “talking at” the class for forty-five minutes straight, with students sitting passively — no interaction.
My book “Traditional Math” shows what explicit instruction in math looks like in the classroom. Here is an excerpt. To see more, buy the book! (You can’t see the movie yet; I’ll keep you informed on that. I will be played either by Jeff Goldblum or Johnny Depp.)
