Aesthetic Identity.
Most people don’t struggle with style because they lack taste.
You might’ve heard me say before that I don’t actually believe in bad taste, and I stand by that.
What I do believe in is performative, dishonest taste, which emerges as a byproduct of self-incognizance.
What people often struggle with is coherence. Their outer presentation lacks continuity with their real Self, their real essence, because they’re still developing an aesthetic identity as a means to an end: impressionability, validation, belonging, etc.
And while developing personal style as a tool for external reward can be effective, even powerful, it neglects the very most fulfilling and liberating dimension of dress.
The one that unlocks real creativity. The one that carries all of the explosive flavor.
