NORTHEAST HARBOR – On Wednesday, August 26th at 5:30 p.m. the Northeast Harbor Library will host marine geophysicist and international educator Mike Coffin, PhD for a lecture titled “Earth’s Mass Extinctions”.

Coffin will present the evidence and likely causes of Earth’s five mass extinction events over its ~4.5 billion year history, and share the measurements that suggest a sixth may now be underway.

After growing up in Bangor, Mike Coffin was educated at Dartmouth College (AB) and Columbia University (MA, MPhil, PhD). Ever since, he has pursued an international career that reflects the boundless nature of the global ocean, leading or participating in 37 blue-water research expeditions focused mainly in the Southern, Pacific, and Indian oceans.
