As summer begins to wind down, there’s still plenty of great fishing ahead. August offers opportunities for anglers of all ages, from easy shoreline action with panfish and bass to pursuing trout and salmon in deeper, cooler waters. Whether you’re squeezing in one last family fishing trip before school starts or chasing your next memorable catch, now is a great time to get on the water.
Beginning August 16, general law regulations for rivers, streams, and brooks change to artificial lures and flies only through September 30. Bait fish, smelt, and worms may not be used, and general law length and bag limits apply, except for a daily limit of one landlocked salmon and one brook trout. These seasonal regulations help protect Maine’s salmon and trout as they prepare to spawn.

Do your part by learning how to properly clean and dry your watercraft, motor, trailer and equipment before laving water access.
