Beautiful artwork by a Baha’i artist.
Note: I recorded a reading of this post—a therapeutic reflection for myself—but the sound quality isn’t quite where I’d like it to be. I’ll look into upgrading my setup. I’m looking forward to adding richer multimedia elements to the experience of reading and learning.
Thought to share an update, as life moves forward.
These days are moving through valleys and peaks with a sense of newness.
I find myself entering a chapter that resonates deeply with what ‘Abdu’l-Bahá describes as the dawning of humanity’s maturity—a time when new virtues, new powers, and new capacities are required, and when fresh bounties are already descending upon receptive hearts.
So much of what I’m experiencing—inner change, new insights, a reorientation of perspective and purpose—echoes this larger transition. Humanity, He explained over a century ago, is outgrowing the conditions of its adolescence and entering a stage of spiritual maturity. He writes::
Humanity has emerged from its former degrees of limitation and preliminary training. Man must now become imbued with new virtues and powers, new moralities, new capacities. New bounties, bestowals and perfections are awaiting and already descending upon him. The gifts and graces of the period of youth, although timely and sufficient during the adolescence of the world of mankind, are now incapable of meeting the requirements of its maturity. — ‘Abdu’l-Baha’, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, November 17, 1912.
At times, this path is a thrilling exploration of learning, inner awakening, and the Creative Word. At other times, it is difficult, humbling, and deeply human.
Overall, it feels like a threshold moment of spiritual and emotional maturity and marked by a defining gift: a healed and open heart, free to love universally and to serve from a deeper place of unity. There is a feeling of a renewed relationship with the Creative Word; a heightened stirring toward service, community, and livelihood building; and, above all, a trusting openness to God’s organic unfolding.
I can see how this new stage is the convergence of decades of experiential learning: holistic education, (profound) sensitivity and intuitive awareness, (fascinating) polyvagal-informed regulation, resilience and strengths-based science supported by divine assistance, transformative leadership, and the spiritual guidance of the Bahá’í teachings.
All these streams are now coming together, little by little, day by day, with a single aim: to explore and embody how hearts open, how unity is cultivated, and how human beings can flourish in the twofold purpose of life. Eager to explore through that wide door that is open to us all.
The doors of His generosity are wide, wide open to us; but we must be attentive, alert and mindful, occupied with service to all mankind, appreciating the bestowals of God and ever conforming to His will. — ‘Abdu’l-Baha’, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, September 24, 1912.
