Note from Ever Thine Home Staff:
As you might have read on Thursday’s podcast, every summer Barbara takes a “sabbatical” for a month. We put it in quotes because she doesn’t really stop working. But it’s a way for us to create some breathing space for her on the calendar. So we take the month of July off from our normal blog post schedule to create that breathing space for all of us. And it is a good reminder that we all need to create that space in our lives at some point during the year ... maybe more than once!
This month, we thought we would do something fun and pull out some of Barbara’s most popular posts that continue to rise to the top as people search on the internet for answers about the struggles they face in life. Perhaps you have landed with us in Ever Thine Home because you were searching for advice or guidance, and one of Barbara’s blog posts or podcasts was suggested to you.
For the next four Mondays, we will share a common question from internet searches—perhaps you might have searched the web for an answer and landed on one of these timeless articles. We pray you are encouraged as God meets you in Barbara’s writing.
How do I respond when God asks me to do something I don’t want to do?
“At first, I saw only what I was missing, what had been taken away. Death is like that. The loss of a dream or a hope brings grief, which must be acknowledged. No sense pretending we are always happy about God’s plans and His impeccable timing that never seems to match mine.
“I focused on life not going the way I wanted it to. I grieved not getting what I had planned. But then I reminded myself of what I knew to be true about God. He loved me and was at work in my life for good … always for good. Philippians 1:6 tells us, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion …” I chose to trust my Father in Heaven who rules with wisdom and purpose.”
