Many people believe they are recovering because they have stopped working.
They close the laptop, sit on the couch, open their phone, start a series, and tell themselves the difficult part of the day is over.
Technically, the work has ended.
But the nervous system may still be receiving almost the same message it received all day.
Keep watching.
Keep processing.
Keep switching.
Keep anticipating what comes next.
The subject has changed, but the internal state has not.
This is the recovery mistake that leaves many people tired but never deeply restored.
They replace effort with stimulation and call it rest.
The body becomes still, but attention remains busy.
