The body can look still while it is still protecting you.

You can be sitting on the couch, lying in bed, drinking tea, watching something, doing nothing, and still feel a quiet tension underneath it all. The jaw stays a little tight. The shoulders do not fully drop. The stomach feels held. The breath remains smaller than it needs to be. The mind keeps checking the future, replaying the day, or waiting for the next thing that might require a response.

This is not always obvious stress.

Sometimes it is the body living in a low level state of readiness.

You are not in danger, but your system has not fully received the message that it is safe. It has been asked to respond for so long that it keeps preparing even after the moment has passed. This is why many people rest without recovering. They stop moving, but their body does not stop guarding.

The quiet recovery habit is built for that.

It is not another wellness performance. It is not a perfect evening routine. It is not a long meditation that makes you feel like you failed if your mind keeps moving. It is a small repeated practice that teaches the body, slowly, that it can soften again.
