I’m writing this from my bed, snuggled up under the covers. The window is only just cracked open to let in some of that freezing winter air. Beside me is a warm brew and a sleeping cat.
I’m in hibernation, and I’ve been so in the last couple of months. Winter has taken me whole, and I’ve been swallowed up in family time - puzzle games, baking and movies.
And I’ve loved it more than I dare admit.
I used to dread the winter. The long days of little to no light, the passivity, the laziness of it all.
But ever since I started living more closely with the season, I’ve been looking forward to winter. Like meeting an old friend. In fact, I have longed for this year’s wintertime.
After a year where I’ve done very exciting things, like finished writing one book and decided to self-publish another, I’ve been in much need of winter’s slowness.
Truthfully, I didn’t see it like that at the time.
