Get ready! Grandma is coming for a visit!
Grandma is coming to see you! And it doesn't matter if she has to ride on a train, ski down a mountain, or pedal a bicycle to get there. Here she comes!
"Here Comes Grandma" by Janet Lord is such a book - it turned 20 years old this year. I've been a children's librarian for over 30 years, and I am meeting it for the first time.
I'd just booked my ticket for the UK where I will see my grandsons, ages four and a half and two and a half. This book showed up in one of my favorite independent bookstores in New Jersey - The Bear and the Books.
I plan to record myself reading the original and then record my own version, below, inspired by the book.
Here comes Grandma Pam!
I'm coming by plane to see you.
And if that plane doesn't want to fly
I'll pull on my wings and take to the sky to see you.
I'll count the minutes and count the hours
Through clusters and clouds and meteor showers to see you.
When I land on the ground I'll vroom to your place
Ride the lift to floor number 8 to see you.
I'll knock on the door and keep my eyes closed
Breath held and scrunched toes, all of me waiting to see you!
Warmly and With Love,
Miss Pam/Grandma
