I love and frequently return to the essential essay Poetry is Not a Luxury by Audre Lorde: “Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives.”
Similarly, Aimé Césaire wrote that, “Poetic knowledge is born in the great silence of scientific knowledge.”
Some poems stay in my heart rent-free, and I’d imagine the same is true for some of you.
