Have you ever noticed how the objects we touch every single day start to carry a piece of our soul? I am writing to you today while looking down at a keyboard where the letters have been entirely worn away by years of my fingertips. It is with a surprisingly heavy heart that I have to tell you my trusty laptop, a machine that feels more like an old friend, is finally drawing her last breath.
It feels strange to grieve a piece of technology, but this machine has been by my side since the sleepless nights of grad school. She has been the quiet, glowing center of my creative world. When our home is full of the beautiful chaos of our daughter playing and our four cats and two large dogs running through the halls, this laptop has been my sanctuary. She has patiently absorbed every single keystroke of all eight of my books.
Ally and I have spent countless late nights huddled around her screen, editing and refining every manuscript together. She is the birthplace of every social media community I have built, especially this deeply cherished space we share right here. She is not just a tool. She is a trusted vessel for my life work and an essential part of our family.
Saying goodbye to her feels like closing a major chapter of my life. I am genuinely mourning her loss as her screen flickers out for the final time. Yet the writing must continue. I am now faced with the immediate need to purchase a new machine so I can keep exploring our shared stories and keep building this community without interruption.
If this space has brought you comfort or inspiration over the years, and if you have the means to do so, I would be profoundly grateful for any support you might offer toward a new computer. Your generosity will directly ensure that the next book and the next essay have a safe place to be born.
