Every 2026 outlook says the same thing. This is the year the agents go to work. Autonomous systems that plan, decide, and act while you sleep.
The data says something else.
Not that agents don’t work. The enterprise bet its budget on the wrong layer. The models keep improving. The orchestration keeps breaking. The returns keep not showing up on the P&L.
This is not an argument against AI. It’s an argument about where the value is — and, more usefully, where it isn’t.
