We here on autoevolution are not into gaming consoles. I mean, of course we are, as we like to play video games just as much as the next guy, but we’re not in the habit of writing about them. What we have here, though, is too good to pass.

I’m not bringing you a console per se, but a replica of it. A life-size replica of it, that is, made in plastic bricks, but not of the LEGO kind. No, these are Mattel bricks, which come together to form a 1:1 scale of the original Microsoft XBOX console.

The gaming device first came into the world back in 2001, which means it is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For one reason or another, Mattel’s most recent business, Mattel Brick Shop, decided to wish it a happy birthday with a life-size collector display piece.

The XBOX itself is interactive in the way that the scenes from the three games come to life with lighting effects and in-game soundtracks. They can be activated by pressing the buttons on the controller that accompanies the build, a replica of the piece of hardware that became known over the years as the Duke. Separately, a hidden button combination on it can be used to trigger an exclusive lighting sequence.

The Mattel XBOX brick set is already available to pre-order at select retailers globally, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Mattel Creations. The price is not for the faint of heart, given the design’s complexity and unique features: $329.99.

The XBOX is the most recent addition to a growing collection of Mattel brick toys, which, in a very short time (the business was born last year), brought into the world building sets related to the Masters of the Universe, Halo, and a series of carmakers and their products: Chevrolets, Audis, Toyotas, Hondas, Cadillacs, and more. Naturally, the Hot Wheels are represented as well.

By far, the Mattel Brick Shop Original XBOX Console is now the most expensive of all these plastic recreations. Will it be a hit? Well, the original Microsoft XBOX sold some 24 million units, so...
