Every single human industry has its undeniable stars, in the form of legendary brands and products. The same happens in the watchmaking universe, where something called the Valjoux 72 is held in very high regard.

The name belongs to a manual-winding, column-wheel chronograph movement that was in production from 1938 to 1974 and was used in some legendary sports and racing watches over the years, including older Rolex, Heuer, and Breitling models. No longer in production, the movement is about to make a comeback, at the hands of Switzerland-based Singer Reimagined.

A sort of sister company to the famous Singer Vehicle Design that deals with Porsches, Reimagined announced earlier this year that the Valjoux 72 will be making a comeback – and now we know all the details of the watches it will power.

There will be two of them, a stainless steel and a gold one, which will be known as the Heritage V72 chronographs. Each uses the Valjoux 72 movement that’s not really reimagined by Singer but carefully recreated using new old stock parts Singer managed to get its hands on. There’s talk of parts that are untouched and perfectly preserved for almost half a century.

The watchmaker says it carefully disassembles and inspects every Valjoux 72 part before fitting it in the new watches, while performing minor nips and tucks in the process, including fitting an engraved Restored by Singer marking on them.

No matter which version of the Heritage V72 we’re talking about, the movement is housed in a 38.8 mm case with a sunray satin finish and mirror-polished chamfers. The dial is fitted with a golden-toothed flange and touches of gold for good measure.

The core engineering behind the Valjoux 72, with its three-register architecture, is visible through the case, as its glass-box back allows people to see the intricate inner workings of the Heritage V72 watches, as they do their thing at 18,000 vibrations per hour.

Each of the two pieces carries a number of modern and Singer-driven touches, including an applied Singer logo. Two dial variations are available for each of them, one in velvety matte stone-gray and the other in velvety matte intense black.

No matter the choice, the hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated and treated with Orange Super-LumiNova to ensure visibility. The watches are held in place by straps in either black-grained natural leather or grey textile, measuring 20 mm at the lugs and tapers to 16 mm at the buckle.

Speaking of buckles, these have been designed to match the type of case of each watch, with the buckle meant for the steel one equipped with a steel pin buckle, and the other an 18-carat yellow solid gold pin.

Both Heritage V72 watches will become available in November 2026, and they’ll sell for the equivalent of $28,300 for the steel version and $55,500 for the gold one.
