So you crack the lid for one stingy sniff.

Doesn’t count.
Using the good thing requires a body capable of receiving good things . . . and yours is busy trying to find the one loose hair touching the back of your neck.
The untouched wick protects you from finding out.
Unlit, the candle can’t prove how easily something beautiful can happen without you.
