The smothering heat of summer is in full force here. I step outside, and it’s like opening the oven door. I’m a cool weather gal, y’all. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not scream “I can’t wait for autumn.” Every day is a gift, even if it’s hotter than Hades.

Last week, I shared a snippet of Before the Storm. It drops starting Monday 8/24 on Ream.

The Oklahoma City Storm have a lot to prove.

After a gambling scandal tears through the ranks, the front office is gutted and the coaching staff is replaced. Players involved are gone, and the ones who remain are left to pick up the pieces. Ellis Harper is brought as the new captain, and it’s his job to help turn a team’s image around and prepare for the upcoming season.

The last thing he needs is a PR woman with no knowledge of the game telling him how to do his job.

Lanie Brooks has to leave Chicago for a fresh start. She has no other options. She takes the difficult job of the Oklahoma City Storm’s new director of communications. Her top priority seems impossible: repair the team’s reputation, keep the players out of trouble, and convince Oklahoma City that this new Storm deserves their trust.

Then she beings working with Ellis Harper.

He’s convinced hockey should come first. She’s determined to make sure the team survives long enough to matter.

Neither of them came to Oklahoma City looking for love.

And neither of them is prepared for what happens when they find it.

Here’s a question someone asked this past week:

What do you do when writer’s block hits?

This is one of the number one questions every writer gets. I don’t believe in writer’s block. No, it’s true. If I get stuck on something, I pivot and work on something else until my subconscious can figure it out. Sometimes that means working on another story, and other times that means cleaning out the closet. The distraction usually gives me that A-HA moment and then I can move on.

I’m almost done with The West Wing. A little over 2 seasons left to go. I’ve been distracted by Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. I’m really enjoying this series.
