Good morning. I hope you had a wonderful week. Last week was Kayleigh’s last drama camp week and she finally got a solo and it was from one of her favorite characters - Ugly from Honk. She is a good singer, but this song really stretched her. It was just low enough she couldn’t sing all the notes in the octave the male on the vocal track does and just high enough that she had to figure out how to hit the high notes on the octave up. Add to that that the lyrics are really similar in each verse and the fact that she’s a perfectionist and she was stressing.
When show time happened, she did a great job hitting all the notes, but she mixed up the lyrics and ended up repeating herself and skipping one part. She was so disappointed that it wasn’t perfect but I was impressed by how well she handled it. She didn’t stop or start crying or anything. She paused for a half a second, listened to the music, and just picked up the next part. If you didn’t know the song, you would have a hard time even knowing she messed up. I teach public speaking to Juniors in high school who don’t always have that composure and I told her this mistake actually shows the director so much more about her and her skills. She doesn’t believe me yet, but hopefully she will.
This week, school meetings begin. I have two today and I have to start curriculum planning, so my writing has taken a back burner, but I’m hoping to still get in a few hours each day and have my curriculum planned out so well that I’ll have time to write during the year. To that end, I better get back to work, but before I go, I realized last week that I told you about my books being up on YouTube but forgot to give you the link, so it is below.
