We just got back from a trip to Texas to see my dad for his 80th birthday. It was a blessing with some challenges lol.
We drove, so it was a long way down and a long way back. Because we don’t have access to a pool on a regular basis here, we decided to stop at hotels that had pools so we could all swim. Kay forgot her goggles so she asked me every time if the hotel we were staying at had them. We purchased some for her when we got to Texas so she would have them on the way back.
I really wanted to see the musical Texas when we got there since I hadn’t seen it in years and my family had never seen it. We had three options. We could have watched it Saturday evening, Sunday, or Tuesday. My brother thought Saturday would be too busy and we decided to do my dad’s birthday on Sunday so that left Tuesday. Wouldn’t you know, that day, a huge thunderstorm came through. We got to watch the first half of the show but shortly after intermission, they canceled due to lightning and rain. We had to run to the cars in a huge downpour and they don’t give refunds since we made it to intermission. I was disappointed, but my daughter saw enough that she said next time we go, we have to try again.
We did have a great birthday with my father and we purchased some fireworks to set off with them before we left.
On the way back, we decided to do some sightseeing. Our first stop was Santa Fe, mainly to see the Loretta chapel. The staircase was very pretty. We also got to see the outside of the chapel of Assissi, but the doors closed just minutes before we got there so we didn’t get to see the inside.
After Santa Fe, we made a quick stop at the Four Corners monument. It was still really cool, but very commercialized now as shops are set up all around it to get you to buy souvenirs.
Then we saw the Bonneville Salt Flats which doesn’t look like much from the picture but was very cool in person.
Finally, we stopped to see the Shoshone Falls. That was definitely everyone’s favorite stop and even though the falls were considered Low at this time, they were still amazing.
We stayed in Twin Falls that night and since it was 4th of July, we caught the local fireworks show. Our hotel was just a mile away, so we walked there and were super close to the show. I didn’t take pics, but I did video some. However that is too large to put here.
Though I did drive some, I also got a lot of time to read. I finished all 6 books of the When Calls the Heart series, all three books of the When Courage Calls series, and I read Sunrise on the Reaping and re-read The Hunger Games Trilogy on the trip. I didn’t get a ton of time to write, but I did add some, and I’m pleased to say the book is now halfway finished. Hopefully I’ll finish it this month and have it for you next month.
