Alex never meant to fall for his best friend’s dad. Stolen touches, forbidden “daddy” nights, and constant risk of discovery fuel their scorching affair. How long can they hide the taboo?

Chapter 1: The Spark

Alex

I dropped my heavy duffel bag on the creaky wooden floor of Jake’s guest room and exhaled a breath I felt like I’d been holding for the entire three-hour drive.

The room smelled faintly of old cedar, laundry detergent, and the unmistakable musk of an old house in the dead of a humid summer. I stood there for a long moment, staring at the faded quilt on the mattress, trying to steady my racing pulse.

Two years.

Two years of stolen glances across backyard barbecues. Two years of accidentally-on-purpose brushing shoulders in the hallway whenever I came over to hang out with Jake. Two years of pretending I didn’t feel a dangerous, intoxicating heat flood my veins every single time Mark Thompson looked at me with those heavy, unreadable dark eyes.

Now, I was moving into his house for the entire summer break under the guise of an internship nearby, and the realization was suffocating. The walls already felt too thin, the ceiling too low, the air entirely too charged.

Jake had crashed hard by ten-thirty. We’d spent the evening catching up on the back porch, but between his grueling ten-hour shift at the landscaping company and the three IPAs he’d downed to take the edge off, his eyelids had been drooping before the clock even hit ten.

“Don’t stay up too late, man,” he’d mumbled, slurring his words slightly as he patted my shoulder and disappeared upstairs to his bedroom. “Got to hit the hardware store early tomorrow.”

Lucky for me. Or maybe incredibly dangerous. I wasn’t sure yet.

The house grew dead silent around eleven, save for the rhythmic, low thrum of the central air unit and the occasional chirp of crickets from the thick woods bordering the property.

The restlessness in my limbs was a physical ache. I couldn’t just lie in bed and stare at the ceiling, not when my mind was spinning out of control, replaying the way Mark had looked at me when I first pulled into the driveway this afternoon.

He’d been standing on the porch, leaning against a wooden pillar with a cold drink in his hand. He wore a tight black t-shirt stretched over a chest that looked wide enough to shield me from the rest of the world, his heavy, corded biceps flexing as he crossed his arms. He hadn’t smiled when he saw me. He’d just nodded, his gaze tracking me from my worn sneakers, up the length of my legs in my fitted shorts, all the way to my eyes.

That look had stayed with me all evening, burning a hole straight through my composure.

Seeking any kind of distraction, I grabbed my black swim trunks—the ones that sat low and loose on my hips—and slipped into them. I didn’t bother with a shirt or shoes. I padded downstairs barefoot, my feet making no sound on the hardwood steps.

When I pushed open the heavy sliding glass door, the summer night air hit me like a physical weight. It was warm, thick, and heavy with the scent of blooming jasmine and chlorine, pressing against my bare skin like a tentative caress.

At twenty-two, I was acutely aware of how I looked. I spent hours every week in the university pool, carving out a lean, muscular swimmer’s build. My six-pack was defined, my skin smooth and deeply tanned from hours under the sun, catching the silver beams of the low-hanging moon.

I liked the power that came with knowing I was attractive. I just never expected a man like Mark Thompson to actually notice it.

The pool lights glowed a soft, hypnotic turquoise in the darkness, rippling against the concrete patio. I walked to the edge, took a deep breath, and dove in cleanly. The transition from the stifling night air to the cool, crisp water was an instant shock to my system, slicing through the fog in my brain.

I surfaced at the far end, blinking away the moisture, and immediately began throwing myself into laps. Freestyle, butterfly, backstroke—it didn’t matter. I pushed my body hard, arms cutting through the water, legs kicking a steady rhythm.

I was trying to burn off the tension coiling tighter and tighter in my gut, trying to flush the image of Jake’s dad out of my head.

But it was impossible.

Mark was a force of nature. Six-foot-four of pure, rugged construction-worker muscle. He possessed the kind of broad, solid shoulders that looked like they carried the weight of the world without a single complaint, and thick arms corded with thick veins from decades of manual labor.

His voice was a weapon in itself—a deep, gravelly baritone that always seemed to vibrate somewhere low in my spine whenever he spoke directly to me.

With his sharp salt-and-pepper hair, a strong, unyielding jawline often covered in dark stubble, and those piercing eyes, he looked entirely out of reach. He was forty-six years old, divorced, carrying an aura of quiet sorrow and authority, and he was infinitely hotter than any guy my own age could ever hope to be.

He was the definition of a forbidden fantasy.

I finished my twelfth lap and surfaced at the deep end, gripping the smooth tile edge of the pool. I pushed my wet hair back from my face, gasping for air, the water lapping gently against my collarbones.

That’s when the heavy sliding glass door rumbled open again.

My breath hitched in my throat. I froze, my fingers digging into the tile as Mark stepped out into the moonlight.

Unfortunately, he was wearing a shirt. A pair of loose, heather-grey sweatpants that hung low on his hips, the soft fabric clinging to the heavy contours of his lower body. Even through the restriction of his work clothes, his torso seemed like a wall of power.

The silver moonlight caught every ridge, every shadow of his massive frame, making him look less like a man and more like something carved out of granite.

“Couldn’t sleep either?”

His voice rolled across the quiet backyard, low, rough, and laced with a weariness that felt intensely intimate.

I swallowed hard, my heart instantly beginning to slam against my ribs like a trapped bird.

“Too wired from the drive, I guess,” I managed to say, my voice sounding a little breathless even to my own ears. “Figured a few laps might help cool me down.”

Mark didn’t answer right away. He didn’t grab a towel from the lounge chair, and he didn’t turn back inside. Instead, he walked slowly toward the deep end where I was floating, his heavy footsteps thudding quietly against the concrete.

When he reached the edge, he sank down, dangling his thick, hairy legs into the water just inches from where my hands were resting.

Up close, the sheer size difference between us was staggering. His thighs were massive, easily thicker than my entire waist, the muscles tense even in relaxation. His large hands rested heavily on his knees—palms wide, fingers thick, skin calloused and scarred from years on job sites.

We sat in an agonizing, heavy silence for a full minute. The only sound was the gentle, rhythmic sloshing of the water between us, splashing weakly against his shins. I could feel the heat radiating off him, cutting through the coolness of the pool.

Then, his dark eyes shifted, locking onto mine before slowly, deliberately drifting downward. His gaze tracked the movement of the water over my chest, lingering on the sharp, defined lines of my abs shifting beneath the surface.

“You’ve been coming around a lot these past couple of years, Alex,” he said, his voice dropping an octave, becoming rougher, darker. He rubbed the back of his neck, his muscles shifting beautifully under the skin. “You’re not a kid anymore. Hell, you’re more of a man than most of the guys your age I see running around.”

The compliment hit me like a stray spark dropped onto dry tinder. A dangerous, intoxicating boldness flared up in my chest, melting away the last remnants of my self-control. I let go of the edge and floated a few inches closer, tilting my head back to look up at him, the water brushing against my chin.

“Is that a problem for you, Mark?” I asked, my voice dropping into a soft, teasing purr.

His jaw clenched so hard a muscle ticked in his cheek. “It should be,” he grunted, his tone strained, almost pained. “You’re my son’s best friend, Alex. I’ve watched you grow up since you were eighteen.”

He closed his eyes for a brief second, a flash of profound guilt and inner torment washing over his rugged features. But when he opened them, the guilt was entirely consumed by something heavy, dark, and raw. “I shouldn’t be sitting out here in the dark noticing how goddamn good you look in the moonlight. I shouldn’t be thinking about it at all.”

My breath caught completely. He had never been this direct before. The unspoken, suffocating tension that had been building between us for two long years had finally cracked wide open, and there was no closing it now.

I swam right up to his legs, resting my forearms on the pool deck on either side of his thighs, putting myself entirely within his reach. I looked up into his shadowed face, my eyes dark with a hunger I was finally tired of hiding.

“I’ve noticed you too, you know,” I whispered, the words slipping out of me like a confession. “For a really long time. The way you take up space. That commanding presence of yours. You’re… bigger, heavier, and more dominant than anyone I’ve ever wanted.”

I leaned in a fraction of an inch closer, my chest almost brushing his submerged knees, my voice dropping to a wicked, provocative whisper. “Makes a guy wonder what it would actually feel like to be completely pinned down under all that weight.”

“Jesus Christ, Alex.” Mark let out a low, ragged groan that sounded like it was ripped straight from his chest. He dragged a massive hand over his face, his breathing suddenly shallow and uneven. But I didn’t miss the way the soft, grey fabric of his sweatpants was beginning to tent heavily between his thighs, pushing hard against his lap.

“You have absolutely no idea what kind of fire you’re playing with right now. I’m old enough to be your—fuck, I shouldn’t even let my mind go there.”

“But you are letting it go there,” I taunted gently, my heart racing so fast it was dizzying.

I reached out, my wet fingers tentatively brushing against the coarse hair on his shin underwater. “You’re thinking about it. You’re thinking about me.”

Mark froze at the touch, his dark eyes snapping back to mine. He stared down at me for a long, agonizing, breathless second, the internal battle raging behind his eyes almost tangible. The guilt of a father, the betrayal of his son, the sheer taboo of the age gap—it was all there, warring against a primal, desperate hunger that had clearly been starved for too long.

Lust won.

Without warning, Mark grabbed the edge of the pool and slid off, dropping into the deep end fully clothed. The water erupted around us, surging in a violent wave as his massive, heavy body closed the remaining distance between us.

Before my brain could even process that he was in the water, one of his huge, calloused hands launched forward, gripping the back of my neck with a bruising, iron-tight hold, and pulled me violently into him.

The kiss was brutal. Hungry. Desperate.

It was two years of forced restraint, suppressed sighs, and agonizing discipline exploding all at once in the dark.

Mark’s mouth claimed mine with an unhinged ferocity, his lips hot and demanding as his tongue pushed past my teeth, taking up all the space, tasting of pure, unadulterated possessiveness.

I let out a choked moan against his mouth, my hands flying up to grip his thick, wet shoulders as I pressed my lean body entirely against his solid wall of muscle.

The contrast between us was electric, almost overwhelming. My smooth, tight swimmer’s frame felt completely swallowed up by his massive, rugged bulk. The wet fabric of his t-shirt rubbed roughly against my bare chest, his chest hair scratching lightly against my skin through the cloth.

His other hand roamed down my spine, his wide, calloused palm scraping against my soft skin before wrapping firmly around my hip, yanking me upward and lifting me slightly in the water to press me harder against his frame.

“Fuck, you feel good,” he growled directly against my lips, breaking the kiss for a fraction of a second to bite down hard on my lower lip, sending a thrill of sharp pleasure straight down to my thighs. “Too goddamn good. This is so fucking wrong, Alex. I’m going to hell for this.”

“Then stop,” I whispered breathlessly against his jaw, my voice a broken, trembling challenge. I wrapped my arms tighter around his thick neck, buried my fingers in his wet salt-and-pepper hair, and pulled him right back down to me.

Our tongues tangled again, wet, deep, and utterly desperate. Mark devoured me, his stubble scraping ruthlessly against my jawline as he took control of the pace, his massive hands mapping out every single inch of my torso beneath the glowing turquoise water.

His rough, heavy fingertips traced the ridges of my six-pack, exploring each deep muscle cut with a heavy, reverent pressure that made my core ache.

Perfect,” he whispered against my skin, his mouth leaving my lips to trail a path of burning, wet kisses down my jaw to my throat. He squeezed my narrow waist, his thumb sliding upward to firmly pinch one of my sensitive nipples. “This tight little body… you’ve been driving me crazy, boy. Running around my house, looking at me like that.”

I whimpered loudly, a high, needy sound that was completely swallowed by the night air. I arched into his touch, my hips instinctively grinding forward against the heavy, solid bulge straining against his soaked sweatpants.

He was massive.

Even through the layers of wet fabric, I could feel the thick, rigid weight of him pressing insistently against my lower stomach, a bruising promise of what he was capable of. My own cock was already screamingly hard, throbbing painfully against the tight confinement of my swim trunks, begging for a release I hadn’t known I could crave this badly.

Mark let out a dark, satisfied rumble from deep in his chest when he felt me grind against him. His hand left my waist, sliding slowly, deliberately down the smooth skin of my hip, his thick fingers trailing over the dip of my pelvis before slipping beneath the wet waistband of my shorts.

When his hand made direct contact with my bare skin, I nearly lost it. His fingers—thick, impossibly strong, and entirely rough from work—wrapped tightly around the length of my fully hard cock, his wide palm anchoring against my pubic bone as he squeezed hard.

“Mark—fuck!” I gasped out loud, my head snapping back, my eyes rolling toward the stars as my hips jerked violently into his iron grip. The pleasure hit my nervous system like a direct bolt of lightning, so intense it made my knees go weak in the water. His hand was so incredibly large it made me feel tiny, completely enveloped and controlled by his touch.

He gripped me tight and stroked upward once, a slow, firm, punishing movement, his rough thumb deliberately brushing over the hyper-sensitive, leaking head of my length.

“So hard for me already, baby boy?” Mark asked darkly, his voice thick with a dangerous, dominant satisfaction. He leaned in, his mouth attacking the sensitive skin of my neck, sucking a harsh, bruising line right over my pulse point, marking me as his own. “You like having a real man’s hand on you, don’t you?”

I moaned louder this time, a broken sob of pure ecstasy escaping my throat as I clung to his massive shoulders for dear life, my entire body trembling under the water as he prepared to stroke me again. The pleasure was cresting, building too fast, pushing me toward a precipice I wasn’t ready for.

Just as his thumb caught the tip again—

“Dad? Alex? You guys out there?”

Jake’s voice, thick with sleep and completely confused, suddenly sliced through the heavy silence of the backyard, coming straight from the screened porch.

Mark froze instantly.

His massive hand remained completely buried inside my swim shorts, his thick fingers locked in a tight, unyielding grip around my pulsing, aching cock, holding me still underwater. My heart violently hammered against my ribs, the adrenaline spike instantly replacing the haze of lust with pure, suffocating terror.

We were pressed tightly together in the glowing, turquoise water, our breathing ragged and loud in the quiet night. My lips were swollen and bruised, my neck marking a bright, burning red, our bodies still trembling with an unfulfilled, desperate need. One wrong move, one loud splash, one shifting shadow, and the fragile peace of this family would be permanently shattered.

Mark’s dark eyes locked onto mine in the moonlight, completely wide, filled with a volatile, explosive mix of raw, unhinged lust and a sudden, crushing wave of agonizing guilt.
